let's do this, rather than wasting time with troll discussion. Why don't you link a reputable source of information which states clearly that you should be using 16 sample buffer?

Using that setting being the correct course of action is now on you.

These are the options for I/O buffer in Logic. Do you see 16 anywhere listed? All you have to do is now simply prove you know more than the multiple software engineers who work on this product for Apple. And all of the professionals who are using Logic every day...

Change the Audio Input Monitoring on the channel you are recording from 'In' or 'Auto' to 'Off'.

Select 'Reduce Latency While Recording' in the top menu.

If you want to hear FX on the channel you are recording you need to make duplicates and record both, one with Auto activated. You won't hear the one that has monitoring off but you keep this version and delete the one that is out of sync...

Btw, this will allow you to up the buffer from 16 to 1024 etc. You just get a delay when hitting play and record.

A buffer that small (16 samples) is going to make your system run ~differently. this guy has been harping on 16 sample buffers and latency for weeks now. it's why he bought a new interface. it's a Focusrite Scarlett interface. He is comparing these two DAW's bare minimum i/o buffer settings. To compare settings. The difference switching from 32 to 64 sample i/o buffer is about .3 milliseconds. There is literally 0 reason for him to set it that low and expect smooth performance at the same time. That is Fantasyland. It's not going to stay at 16, look at the range mentioned. 16 samples is literally nothing. Nothing on this planet happens with .3 millisecond precision; like playing instruments, hearing sound.

I'm assuming he means 'recordings' and not 'freezes', which is different...

Yeah totally agree there's no reason to run at 16 if that's even possible. He's looking at the problem wrong and that's making him look for the wrong solution in lowering the latency...

Its the 'Auto' record that's messing things up, its in the title that he's recording that way so I'm assuming this is the issue...

I've spent the last couple of weeks recording vocals and dragging them into sync until I randomly recorded some properly with monitoring turned off. Sounds like exactly the same problem.

a few years ago, there were all these clickbait discussions about how "my free daw sounds like your 500$ daw". And the first time you see or hear the conversation, you might think to yourself " if I made a song in cubase, it could turn out different than one I did in Protools". Different effects, features, workflow; so you think you would end up with a different sounding track. At some point, you realize that isn't what they are talking about. They are talking about null testing the same file in 2 DAW's; one that was expensive, and one that was free. When it dawns on you, holy sh*t, that's what they mean? 5 pages of thread to determine that a single audio file playing "sounds exactly the same"?

    This is like that.

Honestly just stick to one DAW. The only difference that matters is how you use it - no Listener will hear differences, I think most Producers can't. Its a tool and however that feels in your hands is what is best for you. If you already like FL then stick with it. The energy you waste swapping DAWs is a tragedy. You could be making music instead of learning how to set things up again.

Good explanation but I don't know why he made this video so long, it gets confusing. He already covered it in a minute or so.

To please the mighty god of YouTube: ALGOR! That dude is committed and plays the game. He actually knows Live, which is a pleasant change in the sea of people who don't get the concept and just use it as a host for 3rd party plugins until they run into some problem and then switch DAWS *cough*.
