Why does someone steal something? For several reasons. Because he cannot make anything better than that, doesn't have enough knowledge or due to laziness. Digital tools are seducing. Don't be deceived by them. Continuous use of these tools without having sufficient knowledge of music has no results.

So WHO is the composer, if he is just "producer" ?

Your argument is running in circle : NO ONE IS MENTIONED AS "COMPOSER"
So basically, Hans Zimmer is NOT a composer ?

Only a "producer", taking MIDI parts from others and copy/pasting them ?

What a better argument ... against him

Why do you keep mis-writing his name? As a constructive thought, it just invalidates any of your views or comes as it just comes across as disrespectful and whiny, almost in a childish name-calling kind of way. Not saying this is how you are, just how it may be interpreted by others reading it. You have valid points, and they will likely be taken more seriously by people without the intentional "mocking" perhaps as this results in your valid views being lost and potentially coming across as just an antagonistic and unconstructive contribution, and as a result ignored by most?

As a more precise response to your comments though, do you not have the same choice to watch the movie at all or not? The director isn't forcing anything on you. In the same train of thoughts, your comparison falls away a bit as do you not think uncredited record labels staffers, studio personnel, producers, and so on co-craft the tracks of artists like Taylor Swift? Why is a label forcing what tracks are on an album/EP a consumer may purchase or an uncredited producer coming up with the final song structure or parts credited as a Taylor Swift song any different to the director choosing the soundtrack for their movie or an uncredited musician contributing or writing the structure or elements of the score credited to Hans Zimmer?

As opposed to the likes of John Williams virtually stealing Gustav Holst's Planet Suite, and particularly the likes of Mars, for the infamous and legendary Star Wars score (or at the very least stealing the whole style and vibe of it if not lifting direct movements and parts)? Or Jimmy Page's common approach I read in a Led Zeppelin biographical book to writing riffs being to slow down old classical records to where they're unrecognisable and then work it out on his guitar before using them as a basis for a riff for Led Zeppelin songs.

I don't think this type of thing is anything new in music, and yet the same critique isn't applied to all equally, as the likes of John Williams and Led Zeppelin are considered legendary and revolutionary masters and the likes of Hans are criticised for plagiarism and the like. It intrigues me more as to why this discriminatory application of thought is the case, rather than any debate about whether Hans is good or not as that's subjective to every individual.

John WIlliams' Star Wars based on Gustav Holst's Planets, specifically the vibe and tone, and specifically things like Jawa's Theme being an almost direct lift of Holst's Mars in parts:

John Williams' Jaws a straight rip of the start of Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 Movement 4 (notwithstanding the post-intro bit sounding a lot like the Star Wars ceremony piece):

John Williams' Star Wars' legendary first few notes and intro is a lift/based upon Erich Wolfgang Korngold's King's Row:

John Williams' Tatooine themes are a lift/heavily influenced by Stravinsky's Rite Of Spring Part 2:

John Williams' ET theme has remarkably identical parts within Dvorak's Piano Trio No. 4:

But yet in the end titles of the movies and everywhere else it says...."Music by Hans Zimmer"!

Even if he just claims to just produced it according to the small print. In the end he still shows up as the composer of the score! So that's very clever marketing!

But IMO as a composer he's still stealing!

Yes, we've been all over this by now! All film composers are influenced by the classics in all sorts of degree.

But Hans Zimmer took it a step further. He actually copied work from other composers and through a maze of marketing tricks he could still be mentioned as the composer of the score!

That's the big difference between being influenced by composers and actually using material of other composers!

I could start a whole marketing campaign only using the famous 4 notes of the 5th symphony of Beethoven. But in the small print I would explain I just was involved in producing these 4 notes. But still to the world it would seem that I wrote those 4 notes. Just because I was the one to bring it to their attention!

That's what Hans Zimmer does. He steals things, lets someone else from his team take credit for it, and only produces it. In the end when everything seems to be OK he takes full credit for the score!

And it seems only Hans Zimmer can get away with this because everyone loves him and seems to feel the need to defend him!

After so many years of stealing and fooling people? Yes, he deserves a trophy!

But lets be honest! Like I said, I don't dislike the music of Hans Zimmer. I just dislike the way he's acquired it!

Did anyone ever watch his masterclass video? "This is a question, this is an answer". Well, that's exactly what you'll get out of it. Nothing more!

@Olymoon maybe the time has come to close this thread of unknown and futureless people who spit venom towards those who they would dream of being, but who due to lack of competence, ego, and lack of social contacts will never be able to archive. After 18 pages of nonsense and frustration, maybe it's better to end here?

The title of this thread was already painful years ago, but objectively it is simply a page created to hate Hans, and in general all those who are successful in the music industry. They are all considered stupid compared to all the great geniuses we have on AudioSex. Then you go and see their crap on SoundCloud and you start laughing. If a thread had the aim of analyzing the music of Hollywood and cinematic authors is ok, and if you want we discuss their scores, but a hating thread as an end in itself without any musical contribution shouldn't even exist in my opinion.

Do I need to point out the irony of this whole discussion *on this site* or have you figured it out?
    I'll see myself out.

These digital tools are so important that if they didn't exist, 99% of the people working in the music world wouldn't exist either. Instead of increasing the quality of music, the development of digital tools has led to the emergence of people like Hans.

... he played the piano at home but had piano lessons only briefly, as he disliked the discipline of formal lessons. In one of his Reddit AMAs, he said: "My formal training was two weeks of piano lessons."...
