i mean you can do growls with serum and also with falcon but i rather do them in rapid seems easier to me

 

There was/is a lot of Massive (not Massive X) used in that genre, also. Rapid has a nice smooth sound to it; and Serum can be a little abrasive (or more if you want). However, if I wanted to make those sorts of sounds and already had a free Virus in my computer, my $200 would stay in my wallet. This is a nice synth (Rapid). It's just not screaming "you need me!" for anything. Not even close.

You did notice it is on Version 1.8.6, right? You seem concerned about buying stuff that may get cracked. I wouldn't worry about that. But there's no real way to tell if they will call any v2.0 "a new product" and charge existing users for any upgrade to new version.

it's your money. But i am definitely not going to hand them 200$ to keep this demo I installed activated. When it expires, it will be gone.

Problem with this synth : most ppl don't even compare it to others.
I can't find a single video comparing it to Serum, Vital ... just reviews

Some ppl trust in Rapid as "the best" ... but of course don't want to compare it to any other.
Because it is the best :D

Serum cost 189 bucks here ... Rapid is not over priced

Question : how many ppl paid big bucks AND never seen a single real update ?
That's the main question.

if it go abandonware, 200 bucks is a joke.
During this time, Serum got continuous updates since 2015.

Devs not investing into their program is always a bad sign ...

PS : and if dev release a v2 and ask 100 to upgrade v1, it is a joke TOO

 

I own Rapid, have been professionally working with it for several years and, as every comments here gave you some good (other not so) reasons not to buy it, I'll tell what are its strength.

It have by far the best real granular oscillator today. While other synth have some kind of tricked sampler with granular effects included and call it an oscillator, Rapid have a real granular oscillator. It's clean, very usable in sound design. (I own and have worked with almost all supposed to be granular synth, because it's part of my job).
Other strength are the high quality of his effects, including a mutiband distortion very well thought for a synth.
It's easy to program with its different layers.

If those strength are not important for you, forget it. You can do every thing it does with another "alive" synth. Unfortunately you don't like Phaseplant, but it's one of the most powerful synth actually if you forgive its granular joke, which they call an oscillator.

But even so, as it seems to be abandoned, it doesn't worth 200 euros IMHO.
For 100 euros maybe.

I went ahead and bought it im very happy with my purchase it sounds really good and the presets sound really nice i know the real treat of this synth is going deep into sound desing and as far as im testing it sounds great for everything from growls to plucks to supersaws and the ability to have 24 oscs is mind blowing

 

I think you might have increased my desire to buy it too but I will try to wait for a sale price.

I've bought RAPID for 157 euros as promo price on launch (December 2nd, 2016). Assuming it's a good product, but no more maintenance/update/news since a year (v1.8.7 : Dec. 23rd, 2022).

But 200 bucks is abusive, IMHO.

 

and lets not forget that you cannot sell or transfer your license, so youre stuck with it

 

It was 50% off for Black Friday 2022 and also 30% off the expansions, so won't be long to wait

 

I learned during my first job as a salesman, if someone wants to buy something, don't try and put them off. So if you really want it then you buy it. It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks.

How would you say it compared to Camel Audio's Alchemy? That was my favourite for granular synthesis

 

I bought it along with 6 extensions. It's a very good synth, stable and as Oly said, great granular features.
But it seems to be drifting away now although i'm still using it. The sound impression in lack of a better word is equivalent to Dune 3 for me. It gives me the same aural feedback. But it's a different beast.
Regarding Serum or Phaseplant, i own the first and it does NOT give me the same sonic pleasure. For the latter, i desperately wanted to fall in love with it but i never did.
For Rapid, ironically, be slow... Wait for BF or Xmas if you want my two cents.

 

They don't update it mostly anymore.

 

Rapid, compared to Alchemy, brings much more control over how you treat the granular oscillator. It's also much more visual, which can help sometimes.

fxonly unit of it is a good one, with 8 parallel fx chains and the sends (IMO it supports one input + one side chain, so doesn't support the multi-channel sidechaining of Cubase, unfortunately)

and it still hasn't got MSEG modulator, so would pick Bitwig5+ instead, btw. if you're in trance and can't see the synth on https://www.aiynzahev-sounds.com/collections (40% BF at this moment) then skip it

I think several people already mentioned it would go on sale soon.. dude shouldve waited a week or so and saved $100 bucks

I bought it ages ago at a discount price. Would I buy it today? No way jose. No updates in years and no news about anything new happening with it in years = its abandonware.

 

I bought Rapid in 2021 and paid around $98 bucks. I remember I was surprised by the OSC features and effects. You can layer sounds and build one track with just one instance. It really seems to be an abandonware, which is a pitty because this amazing synth was ahead of their competitors.

After reading this thread today, I dusted off my Rapid and started using it a little bit. In a few minutes got two inspiring sketches using granular osc and distortion fx (very shoegaze MBV I could add).
