Quake 3 Arena sound design (front line assembly/Sonic mayhem)

    pretty much looking for recommendations to make drum, synth and general sound design like the one heard in the ost (open to see the playlist, or google if you wish):


    I cant seem to figure out how some drums are made, mostly the distorted "analogue"? Sounding ones at certain parts, and general acid distorted sounds. i am sure with modern vsts like dune 3 i can do most of these things, but i think i want to limit myself to certain vsts that are not that big or tweakable, since the composers most likely used hardware.
    Any help is welcome anyway, either for sound design, or sample libraries that might fit my desires!

    I love Quake3. It is the perfect game...

    ..."I just want to run around and shoot things"
    "Would you like a plot ?"
    ..."No, I just want to run around and shoot things as fast as possible."
    "Would you like to collect things?"
    ..."No, The only thing I want to collect is ammo, to allow me to shoot more things., Oh, and maybe armour to allow me to stay alive longer and shoot more things..."
