Hi, everyone! Made this skin, because I recently got gifted bx_opto and was frustrated with its design, so I gave it a new look.

Here's a free link to download it. (Also if you want to support me, you can enter any sum for it you want. I'm an 18 y/o immigrant and life is very tough right now...thank you).

As of now, it only works on MacOS. I don't know how to apply it on Windows. On MacOS it's quite easy - instructions included in the "Read Me" file.

I've paste the files into opto resources and loading fail in live 11

 

Hm, that's strange. Both the vst3 and audio unit work for me in Logic Pro and Studio One. Maybe relaunching ableton will fix it? Also, I've updated the files, so please try redownloading them.

But yeah I recommend removing and putting the plugin back on a channel strip or relaunching your DAW after replacing the files.

Looks great! The default skin genuinely looks so ugly, this is nice & simple!

 

I don't hate the original theme, but this is classier. And dark colors are welcomed as I often mix in darker rooms. Solid work.
Keep us updated on any progress you may have with bringing this to Windows—I'd happily throw a couple bucks at you on Gumroad.

 

This is very good! Could you please make an alternative skin for NAM. The current one looks great btw, but It would be cool to have an analog or amp-like alternative skin for it. Also, it's an open-source project. Here's the link:

I'd gladly port the skin over to Windows, however it seems to me that the original skin files are locatedinside the .dll and .vst3 files. I tried using Resource Hacker, but...there was nothing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

If someone could help me with this, I'd be very glad!

I've done graphic design for years (small, personal gigs, not as a career,) so I've torn apart plugins before out of curiosity, and only some of them actually have any accessible GUI elements inside them. I honestly don't know enough about .dll files or plugins to know why this is or how any of it works, but this site does have people who are knowledgeable in these areas, so hopefully one of them trips over this thread.

Same here: with my art school background I can handle Photoshop and modified many plugin skins for my own pleasure, at least such who have accessible PNG files, and all on Mac only - unfortunately many plugin skins that I hate and would like to change have inaccessible graphic files (compressed and locked into enigmatic names such as "rsrc" or "nib") and since I'm not savvy with programming I don't know how to open these in order to change the UI. I have searched the web for answers but I don't even know how to ask in order to avoid redundant google results... if someone reads this who knows how to open these files please let me know!

What is the RSRC file?

Files with the RSRC extension are most commonly associated with Macintosh resource files. The file format was originally created in 1978 for use with pre-Macintosh Apple Lisa computers.

An RSRC file contains a library of information used by the Macintosh OS operating system. This file format allowed the Mac OS to separate graphics and text in one file using data and resource forks.

RSRC files are also used in the Apple Xcode environment to develop programs for Mac OS 9 and earlier versions. RSRC files can also contain system themes for the Mac OS X user interface.

How to open RSRC file?

After double-clicking on the unknown file icon, the system should open it in the default software that supports it. If it does not, download and install DeRez software and then assign it manually.

Step 1. Download and install DeRez

If the system does not have DeRez or similar software that supports files with RSRC extension, you must download and install it first. Below is a list of the most commonly used applications that work with RSRC. After going to the subpage of the program, you will find a link to the developer's website where you can safely download the software installer.

Step 2. Associate DeRez with the RSRC file extension

If the user already has one of the applications installed, the next step is to associate it with the RSRC file extension. This can be done in two ways: the Windows Registry and the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT keys must be edited manually. The second way is easier and definitely recommended for less advanced users.

Right-click on the unknown ROZ file you want to open
Select "Open with" from the menu
Click "Choose another application".
Click "More applications"
Click "Browse for other applications on this PC" and specify the installation location of the corresponding program
Finally, select the option "Always use the selected program to open RSRC files" and confirm the whole operation.

Remember! Manually editing the system registry is recommended only for experienced users. Changes made without proper knowledge may damage the system.

Step 3. Check other possible problems with RSRC files.

It sometimes happens that despite having the right application and the right configuration, you still have problems opening the RSRC files. You should then find out where the problem comes from.

Check if the RSRC file is not infected. If the RSRC file is infected with a virus or malware, it may not be able to open properly. In this case, scan the RSRC file and perform the actions recommended by the antivirus program installed on the system. Most often, this involves disinfecting or deleting an infected file.

Check if you, as a user of the operating system, have the appropriate permissions to work with the RSRC file.
Check if the icon is an element of the correct file, but not just a shortcut to the location where the RSRC file no longer exists.
Check if the system has the necessary resources to run the DeRez application and open the RSRC file.
Check if the file is complete - Sometimes it may happen that the RSRC file is not completely copied from the external flash memory or downloaded from the Internet. If the file is incomplete, it cannot be opened correctly. In this case, please download or copy the RSRC file again.

Step 4. Contact an IT specialist
If all of the above methods have failed, you need to contact an IT specialist or developers of the DEREZ program.
