There are many good Tutorial Videos from Truefire about Funk Guitar by the Way.

 

If one can't feel how to funk instinctively... chances are one probably can't do it

 

If this, uh.. guy... can funk :

..and we have scientific proof that he can :


..then a fax machine sending random binaries to an electric wheelchair that moves up and down on a midi keyboard can funk

 

if you are new to the guitar such tutorials are quite helpful but i know what you pointing out you got to have that funky groove in you. Also a good way is to Study your Favorite Songs and learn from the greatest of the Genre.

It's ok Yanni. Even Herbie Hancock, who is black and a genius, struggled mightily with funk. He started out pretty funky on his solo albums I but then, I don't know... maybe just started hanging out with the wrong people

 

He was friends with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke, two famous scientologists.

 

You know, that's a good point. And Chick is also insanely talented but not funky. And I'll go out on a limb and say Stanley is pretty damn unfunky too for a bass player.

 

And yet at some point they managed to play one of the funkiest tunes in history, with the un-funkiest guitarist of all time :

Thank God they had Lenny White in the band. He wrote the tune lol.

 

It may be hard but I guess it would be possible through the help of sampling and MIDI keyboards.

 

Instead of creating fire yourself why don't you try:

It's not the real deal. Far from that but if it is about one of the instruments playing in your track then it might work.

Given the characteristics of the sound you described, it's possible that a single-coil guitar like a Fender Telecaster or Stratocaster was used to achieve that tone.
