yeah but also statistics is a bitch. I don't believe in many 'rules' anymore.. I knew ppl that treated their body like shit and lived a (relatively) long life. And on the other (extreme) side that super sporty kind of 20+ something kids, that died while playing football, cycling etc

Sometimes when I pass by the TV they congratulate some 100y/o 'person'. And it's always that grandgrandma NOT on a yacht doing lines while surrounded with male escorts..

I genuinely don't enjoy salads and most healthy foods. I'm paying for it now
with very high blood pressure (smoking obviously doesn't help) and eventually
I've learned to enjoy the sound of my wife's voice of reason rather than the sizzling of bacon.

I forgot the most important thing about this, stoopid old git.

It's all very logical and there are tons of scientific studies about it. Eating less calories will put you in a state similar to fasting, and your metabolism will slow down. Slow metabolism equals longer life. Pretty simple. The study I remember off the top of my head is about a mouse who lived much longer just by feeding it a calorie restricted diet. I can't remember how much longer, but even 1/3 longer would mean we could live well into our 100s if we did the same, in theory, of course.

You know how fat people are always hungry? Their metabolism sped up due to overeating, and it's also about dopamine addiction... that's why dieting on occasions doesn't work. Always returning to old habits. The only thing that works is permanently changing your diet. I don't feel hungry at all because my body has adjusted to the amount of calories, and the kind of food I put inside me.

    Cheers!

    everybody is different
the food industry told everybody to eat a big breakfast to sell product
bowl of sugar is part of a well balanced diet lol
farmers get up and do chores and pretty much skip breakfast, lite lunch big dinner
i eat like shit but for the most i eat for six hours and don't eat for 18
it is easy once you get used to it
most people say they get light headed after x amount of hours but that is just the sugar leaving your system

    I selected yes!
When I eat a lot, the food in my stomach puts more pressure on my heart and I feel like my heart is working wildly. This increases the blood pressure in the veins, which increases the risk of stroke and internal bleeding. More food means more absorption through the intestines into the bloodstream and more chemical reactions in the blood, around the cells, or inside them. The increase in chemical reactions also leads to the production of more waste materials and these waste materials disrupt the functioning of cells.
Less food means losing weight and reducing the pressure on the heart or other muscles to move the body, resulting in less need for food. Also, the need for exercise decreases because most people exercise to lose weight. Reducing exercise also reduces the metabolism in the cells and less waste materials are created.
Of course, this view of mine was a macroscopic view and I do not know exactly what complex events are happening inside the body and cells.

    100% on the nose.
Take away are nice as an occasional treat thing, but long time they are killers.

I agree with you for the most part. Fasting and living on water for 5 days is way too extreme for me though.

I'm not paleo but the less processed food is the better it (generally) seems to be. Pretty basic.

A really fuxking stupid poll. We don't know how much you eat already - eating less food might actually kill you faster.

It isn't just food, what we drink is also making us fat.

Not phrased like that no - because poor people haven't got unfettered access to top tier health care (e.g., all US Presidents, in case you haven't noticed, who live loooong, albeit undistinguished lives, post office terms).

Also, you can't dissociate childhood from adolescence, from young and mature adulthood. What people eat at various stages of their lives carries over and yields dividends - or consequences - later in life. Rich people have a clear advantage over poor people in that regard as well (in addition to top tier health care).

Ultimately, it's a simple equation that's been known to humanity for millennia, but conveniently obfuscated by agro-industrial interests for decades now.

On the one hand, we must eat - a lot - to grow our bodies, from babies until adulthood. The key is what happens then. Why eat as much, when we're grown? There's really no need - unless one is an athlete of some sort. So, say, starting at 25, when the body and the brain are both fully developed, food intake can, and should be reduced. But it isn't, for a variety of reasons - one of which being that we've been conditioned to think three-four meals a day is normal, and (in the US particularly) that snacking in between meals boosts energy.

Yogic tradition says that two meals a day are plenty to sustain the body - even one depending on the practitioner. One in the morning, but not too early - say, 9-10 am, and the second meal after 9-10 hours (without snacking - only water).

I've been doing it for decades (two meals a day), and since before the pandemic the yogic way (i.e., 10 hour interval between the two, on average), and I'm 6'2" (188cm) and weigh about 190-200 lbs or 85-90 kgs. Also, I'm a vegetarian, perhaps that helps (meat is heavier and harder to digest).

In yoga we are told that one's serving size (cup of rice or pasta or beans) is the size of one's closed fist. I confess my serving size is twice that - two fists - but it remains that the 10 hour gap between the meals is something that took me no time, and no hardship, to adjust to. In fact, I've only seen benefits (more energy, much less sleep needed, and increased mental clarity and acuity) for what it's worth.

    That's my 2 cents.
