Is this the developer saying he don't give a shit no more .....i mean he does make some decent vst's
and they never looked that good but this one is the worst and i think he knows it as well

 

I don't hate it. It's kind of quirky. But I don't like it enough to vote the 2nd option. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being Voxengo and 10 being Sausage Fattener I'll go... 4.5, just below average.

Ohmforce is a group of extremely talented DSP coders, they created and sold heroic VSTs before you knew what a DAW was I presume, and their GUIs have been funky since day 1, i think they pioneered the bizarre style for vst guis.

The OP probably looks at pictures of faux 3D synth-edit shit and thinks "Wow, Analog Obsession are really professional plugins, look at that GUI!" LOL

If this was a graphic design forum we could bash ohmboys a bit i guess

Minimal Audio - Current, now theres a dogshit GUI, id almost expect it to be an adobe illustrator preset by now called "Give Me a Deadmau5 Wavetable VSTi Paycheck Please"

I just noticed this one too (Plasmonic), very recently. But here is a contender:

 

whats wrong with cute looking GUIs? The only bad GUIs are those where everything is hard to read ect.

Nothing wrong with Frohmager or Nani.

I still prefer it to the tiny lines and pastel hell that is Arturia's new Efx MOTIONS vst. That's a VST that desperately needs a dark mode update.

 

I don't think that one is so bad, but isn't it the newest one? People were trying to download it when they made the announcement about make the older ones free, but there were no working links on the webpage. The installer yellow color however, is awful. Can't win them all.

As long as it does what I want (and does it good) then I don't care what it looks like. The final product will be audio or video and not the face of the plugin. The gui is irrelevant unless it's unreadable.

 

There is a reason why bankers, lawyers and other professionals wear suits: to show and manifest respect. Everyone could just wear jeans, and - say in L.A. or Miami or Singapore, wear flip flops.

The level of service would be exactly the same. The return on your money at the bank or winning % of your lawyers identical (whether they wore $5,000 suits and $3,000 hand made shoes, or torn jeans and flip flops).

But how would the customers feel?

Surely, one ought not to judge a book (or a plugin) by its cover. But how many are bitching about the new BMW grille (horrendous), and how does it impact sales, and customer satisfaction? Tons.

Granted, the music industry (and that includes gear and plugin manufacturers) is far more relaxed than the Automotive, Banking or Corporate worlds - thank God.

Be that as it may - a fuck it approach to GUI and design reeks of disrespect for the customer/user. No matter how good the product sounds (there are always just as good or better products - ask Waves, ask Wave Arts), an elegant and streamlined GUI catches the eye, and the wallet of said customer/user.

On my first US club tour, when I was just getting started, the tour manager (a solid drummer himself from Haiti) always insisted on covering our gear with black fabric curtains in between sets. And we played upscale, well known venues, which I found surprising. His response was an old Haitian proverb: "What the eye doesn't see, the hand doesn't steal."

The same logic applies to ugly, inconvenient, or indecipherable GUIs: what the eye doesn't see/like, the (pro) user doesn't buy.

 

There's a lot of graphic design elements that are good in this interface - it's very clean, easy to find what you're looking for, lots of space between the controls. Easy to read, easy to see. This is the direction other plugins should be going in.

I like it, fun AND clean.
Most fun GUI are trash, but this one is clean.
