I actually live about 7 miles from 10,000Mbs speeds, 1st in the country. And I can't get it... it's not cheap, of course. I could have 1 Gb but I don't feel like paying for it, or dealing with the company (local telephone that has fiber).

Shaw charges me $95 a month for high speed internet but I get free cell phone service with free data included.
Canada is expensive for cell phone service so it's a pretty good deal.

It's too much. :) It's so fast I don't ever pay attention to it. I wish we all had 56k US Robotics modems again.

    It's ~25MB/s DL and ~10MB/s UL

@SineWave 13 years ago in Germany I still had a 56k modem, I don't think it's funny, but people can't appreciate what they already have.

One of the first big injustices:
    - in the US, the local calls were 100% free, which meant, whenever an american was calling his internet provider via his 33...56k modem, he was making a local call, so.... the internet 100% free, no need to disconnect every x hours because of the cost...
... meanwhile, in Europe, there was no such 'local calls are free', so, whenever people were using their modems, to call their provider, it was like they were calling... a brother or aunt... and paying... paying.... paying...

This somewhat misleading and shouldn't be part of the thread. I don't want to derail the thread, but it was a different model for a different use case.

US Telco providers charged a much higher service connection fee for those free local calls and still do. The European model was to only charge for what you used with a much smaller connection fee and incoming calls were always free.

I know people in Europe that have had 3 Euro on their prepaid mobiles for years now and never put more on in as all they do is receive calls and texts and never spend. This would never work in the US. The connection fees would eat your money so fast even with a prepaid you are looking putting money in at least once every other month or so.

At the 2.5 cents a minute nominal rate of the time how long would you need to be connected to the internet to make up for the extra 29 dollars a month a US Telco provider charged just for you to have a phone line? 1160 minutes or just under 20 hours a month

For heavy users this was an expensive proposition for he majority of people who just checked email and didn't spend 6 hours a day on forums or hunting for warez and porn it was cheap, for that did it got expensive. It all changed later when Europeans went all in on fibreoptic and data lines. Now data access is more reliable and less expensive in Europe as whole than it is in the US.

Either way, it is interesting to see all the numbers for all over the world even though one is kind of left guessing at where in the world that is as too many people say ... my country ... and never state where the hell that is.

BTW Xfinity data caps depend on the market/region of service and contract. I got the email about caps a few years back and within 20 mins got an other one telling me that it doesn't effect my market/region.

All they will do is hit up your modem/router so it loses "basic settings" which the user cannot restore on their own. They try to give you the song and dance, but if you tell them you need them to do a Push and that you know why; you are back in business in 15 minutes or less. They are not monitoring anything; and they are definitely not decrypting files you transfer so they can tell you what movies you are stealing.

The way that happens is sharing pirated movies on some torrent site like Demonoid, tpb, or whatever other p2p websites they use nowadays because Netflix or OnDemand rental is too expensive for them. :)

It was an offer from my provider that was the first to launch a 5Gbit/s offer (2.5 on one ethernet device/5 total) and at an affordable price too.
Prior to this I had a 20/1 Mb/s DSL (real DL speed 10 Mb/s) for which I payed 38 euro at month.
A giant step ahead and less than half the price (8 eur is for the mobile). I'm very happy for this.
70 eur is a lot but given the italian salaries vs canadian is more like slightly less than 35 eur if confronted. And you have AMAZING ping latency.
I guess you could play a remote session with friends without noticeable latency if you'd want.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're in Canada, like me? May I ask who the provider is? That's only $15 a month more than what I currently pay and it's vastly better.
