Makes sense. This format stopped being developed some years ago.

If they follow the pattern that they have for many years,
You will get 12.5 paid update at Christmas this year
and Cubase 13 paid update NEXT Christmas 2024.

Steinberg kept growing and kept acquiring new products....
But the amount of devs has barely changed, in many years. Cubase... halion...spectralayers...wavelab...nuendo.. dorico..groove agent... soft synths... hardware.... drivers for that hardware... cubasis for ios and android... website... etc etc etc
Devs need to do the helpdesk.. need to write drivers... need to support all those apps... etc etc etc... and they need to create new versions and updates. Too much work, for a quite limited dev team.
    Direct result:
1- apps take many many years to get a new version/ update(last versions: groove agent 5- 2018...halion 6, fev 2017, took 6 years for version 7..cubase 12, march 22, almost 2 years and no v13....)

2- because there aren't enough devs , the new updates/ versions have very few new 'big' features, and a new cubase version can have 'hey, now you can use the color green !'... or 'hey, you can use the new xy font now ! ' or 'hey, the icon xy is now 3 pixels larger! " or 'hey, the old x plug-in now has a black interface! ".... as part of the 'new amazing features'... when those additions should be like v12.0.5 to v12.0.6, instead of a v13...

3- again, not enough devs, so, what is steinberg forced to do ?
    - remove 32bit plug-ins support
    - remove vst 2.x support
    - no 32bit os
    -no win8.1 support
    - no more support for x hardware
    - no more support for this
    - no more support for that

    - I'm sure all the future 2024 releases will no longer support win10
    - no more cmc drivers for win12

Because there aren't enough resources, steinberg are forced to stop supporting a ton of features, options, etc, so they can gain 2 months here...6 weeks there.. 'let's stop supporting that feature/ version, we'll gain 4 months worth of dev...!

I haven't forgotten, how quickly steinberg stopped making divers for the midex8 (paid like 700 bucks for it).

One of the problems @ steinberg, are the same as all audio companies: developing for Apple will take at least 60 or even 70% of all resources, for less than 10 or 15% overall sales.

Almost 2 years for cubase 13. What are they going to add ?
    - a full cpu/ memory/ gpu usage tool, so we can know exactly how much % cpu that 4-note Chord is using (lol, it took 30 years for steinberg to release a proper spectrum analyser tool...)
    - an ableton-like / fl studio mode to handle 'clips"
    -

Greg Ondo @ 2:27 says steinberg has been working on 13, 14 and 15. That doesn't sound like good news to me. Seems like they are making it stretch.. adding shitload of Levamisole to the product

Strindberg really needs to do something about all the workflow redundancies. Options to do it your way are great, but there are so many little things that make Nuendo/Cubase more complicated and confusing than necessary.

Yeah Im sure Steinberg is simply 'buying time' (for what?) by dropping legacy features.

-Windows and Mac kicked 32bit support out. Why would a developer waste their time and resources supporting it if the operating system doesn't? Gee let's make more headaches for our 'support' team by engineering something that doesnt exist in the operating system and hope it works! Third party devs can worry about their band-aids so Steinberg only has to deal with what actually exists in the system they're developing for.

    - VST2 was discontinued over a decade ago, not Steinberg's fault developers are either lazy, don't feel like updating, or don't want to pay for a license (that's why there's no Airwindows for VST3).

    - no 32bit OS? I didn't know Steinberg were the ones behind the operating system or making decisions for Microsoft and Apple.

    - Win 8? Support for Win 8 ended this past January, if Microsoft no longer supports or develops it, why should an app developer? Can you go buy Windows 8.1 or even buy a new system with it installed at a retail outlet? Nope..

Tech comes and goes in case nobody noticed over the last 40 something years. Either stop upgrading and keep your legacy system intact, or play the game and follow their rules, plain and simple.

@gotnofriends - That's how developers work. They're not sitting there focusing solely on C13, they've got future branches they're working on just like every other developer out there. What does Cubase need an "arrangement view" for? It already IS one big arrangement view.

    Just a thought here:

Now a days, we have all these fancy DAWs but even with all the fancy features, we still remain unproductive in terms of releasing songs or beats because we're not satisfied with our DAWs etc.

If we can't be creative with Cubase 12 what gives us the idea that Cubase 13 will be any different?

Of course there's the excitement when we get that new shiny toy but eventually the novelty wears off and we get unsatisfied again hoping for the release of Cubase 14.
In the meantime we still remain unproductive.

Why can't we just be happy with what we have and just make music? :dunno:

Does this ring a bell with anybody?

Anyway just something to think about.

thats because it never was a satisfaction to begin with when it comes to DAWS all u have is this emptiness and having the illusion of satisfaction u going to always want more because satisfaction is an illusion why u think its always a update around the corner thats because u want more u beg for more more more more because u never satisfied so u get what u get when asking for it.......so in the mean time keep making music

in so many words people have to loose the fantasy of satisfaction to resolve what u are saying above

Actually I'm at that point where I'm pretty much satisfied with the plugins and daws I use. Why? Because after 24 years in this business, I've come to realise that audio has a limit in what you can do with it. I'm talking about mixing, not sound design. There is only so much you can apply to a mix to make it sound it's best.

Most people try out different daws and plugins without realising that it's your source material that really counts in getting a great mix and not the daw. You can do a pro sounding mix on any daw now a days as long as you've recorded or sampled great source material.

My point is being productive with what you have now instead of waiting for the next update.

^ This. Everything that can be applied to audio (except of highly specialized, audio restoration spectral tools) was available since more than 15 years ago.

I fully agree with you! I also never understand this compulsive fixation on the next version number. I'm almost sure that most of these people haven't even scratched the surface of what Cubase has to offer under the hood!! Yet they can't wait for the next update to add even more features they will most likely never explore or use? :)

And yes, people sometimes seem to forget that a DAW is just a tool to create music. But it seems they see the DAW as a the ultimate program to play around with and that music is just the byproduct for them? They are not interested in music or production but just in what the next update will bring? So they can acknowledge what is new in this version without ever actually using any of these new features? And from there they start looking forward to updates and ultimately the release of the next ....Cubase 14! :)

They jumped from 11 to 12 so I don't think Steinberg will be releasing anymore .5 releases?
