Yes, I used search here and found something about Waldorf "Varva" (which I hadnt heard about until now and also interested in) and other random questions, but nothing specifically about the Virus emulating VST plugin updates etc. The usual search engines returned a mess of sites forums and threads. I am sure I saw a thread somewhere, either here or another forum but don't remember where

Anyway I have what seems like a very old version "The Usual Suspects DSP56300 Emulator 1.2.20" so wondering if there is a new version worth updating to and where to get it? TY

I downloaded the vst3 from the above site, there are no folders or anything else inside the zip file so I assume I need to create a main "Osirus" folder in the common files/vst3 (where I can keep all of the ROM's and presets for easy ehm.. access), then another folder inside of that one to place the actual vst3 and only 1 ROM at a time - is this correct?

 

Yes. I like to use the "virus_c_650x352_6v5.rom". That is the Virus C (6.5). The 6.6 seems to be a failed attempt to fix the arp, and I am not sure of what use it is. The B roms may be lighter on the CPU, but they have optimized this better in recent builds.
There are a lot of patches floating around. I gathered all i could find and cleaned them (removing duplicates and tagging / labeling them.
Since they take so little space, I have them in folders of A, B, C, TI, and "ALL".
Once you browse to your Virus library, the plugin remembers and you can start from there again.

6.6 is a bad attempt to fix, not solved problems, so still an abandoned beta. Also it kills CPU more than 6.5
So, use 6.5 or Virus Classic ROMs.
B rom has problems with some filters, presets made for C (because made exclusively for and with C, and there are differences with filters among Viruses, as well as polyphony and other features). Like preset number 101 "Bypass" from Incubation soundbank. Try it with B and C roms and you will get veeery different sounds. But it is just a problem for several presets. B rom uses less CPU.

1.2.30 is the latest version for Osirus (Access Virus B, C, Classic and its modifications and revisions).
1.2.36 is the latest version for Vavra (Waldorf mQ (microQ)).

Audio quality of SRC (from native sample rate to DAW project sample rates), try on low frequency sines and spectrum analysers:
Osirus: 44.1k is the worst and noisier, more distortions. 48k and up are waaaay better, way less and quieter distortions and noise, but different depending on sample rates.
I usually create a separate project with higher sample rate, render and SRC manually with linearphase RX or dbpoweramp or voxengo r8brain, and then back to original project. If working in 44.1..

Vavra: not so bad, but 48, 96 are worse than 44.1 or 88.2....didn't test with higher sample rates

Just to update where I am at:

I now have the vst3's for Osirus 1.2.30 and Vavra 1.2.36,
virus_c_650x352_6v5.bin ROM, Waldorf_microQ_ROMs and Access_Virus_Lib.

Am I missing anything or am I all set?

I am trying to do this in as organized a fashion as possible as the last install I did was frankly quite messy with tons of folders and files which I think is why I stopped using it. Anyway TY all for the help!

 

The B ROMS tend to be heavier on the CPU per voice, the later versions (C & TI) were indeed more optimised. But the B ROMS also have lowerepolyphony so will have lower peak CPU usage compared to max polyphony on a C ROM.

Actually I forgot.. I have them all tagged with A,B,C & ti.
Those are just best guesses on many. Some may have been saved on later version but actually created on earlier.
I also used any info about the banks I could find easily, but did not research all of them.
Some said they were created on A, so I tagged them as that

Tagging (in brackets, in this case) of this sort allows ALL presets from any collection to be mixed in with the rest and compared using the Emulator's browser and/or other file comparison methods. It is easy enough to select them by the tag and move them out again, or perhaps remove the tag if it seems original,etc.

I did find some that have info stating they were made in version B, yet show as being Version C, etc.
Perhaps the bank was resaved in C but is still a "B" bank.

I removed the exact duplicates and I added the tag [as] for Articstorm.
Others in Articstorm's collection may be totally unique, and there is a folder of 'non-Bank' midi files.
