for years i was a member on a diff warez forum. they switched their file host and i was trying to download something that was taking way too long. got impatient, googled around & found a few other places; AZ was one of them. i've been there ever since.

 

i know the sister site since around 2010-2012 or even longer. never used it back then as i got my stuff on different ways.

sites which were using filehosters where not so much of a thing back then, at least for many of us older farts.
FTP/PUBz where still a thing back then (good old times) and even after that i rather prefered to use usenet to get me sorted, instead of faceing the bloody filehosters and the shit coming with it... (how everyone loves the free downloads from filehosters, right?). Buying a premium account from a filehoster was NO option and kinda proscribed in some ways.

well, usenet was a kind of thing for a few years. not less complicated... but, yeah... anyway. I had access to a hacked usenet account, which worked for years. A m8 from a other board gave it to me once. He hacked some accounts. He was uploading infected warez releases which had trojaner in it which searched for and stole usenet account informations from the victims. If not payed attention and used with absolut care, usenet is a fuckin dangerous place. soon, tho, all my trusted sources vanished from usenet and AZ become my only source for the goodies.

i started to use AZ like 2018 (at least i registered back then) or something. I dont know how long i know about AS already, i guess also much longer. I was also not aware of both sites are connected in some way. when i started to use AZ more often (...all the other audio related forums died already then) I decided to give AS a go and created a account.
not the same feeling as the other audio boards used to be (especially the audiowarez related ones). but it's fine. i guess.

Well, initially, I got to know the sister site through a friend who lives in Macedonia; we both used torrents (the Russian site). Later, we discovered this site, but he stuck more with the Russian site, while I started exploring the sister site. Why? Well, it's more illustrative than a torrent. Also, at that time (about ten years ago), I think Russian didn't translate as well, and the sister site was more readable in English. Additionally, it had photos of VSTs, making it more illustrative.

Honestly, the site seemed strange to me at first, and I didn't quite understand it. It looked like those HTML sites from 2005, so I felt lost. Eventually, I got more familiar with it, and that's when I found this site through the posts made here. However, I didn't register; I just entered and looked around. In fact, I'm not one to register anywhere—I can be quite stubborn, and some people already know that about me. But I saw Oly on the sister site, being quite friendly with people, and I remember a clear comment there that made me think, "I'll register." A user had written something in Spanish, and Oly replied underneath, "Yes, Spanish is also spoken here, or there are users who speak Spanish (something like that). Any problem with that?" So I thought, "Cool, someone who speaks Spanish," and I registered.

I remember having trouble with my email; I had registered with an email that wasn't working, and both the users and Oly helped me out. To be honest, and I say this with all sincerity, this site seemed boring to me at first. I couldn't find the sense in it; I didn't understand it well. I mainly went to the sister site to see what was new and to download things. However, I always stumbled upon a post that caught my attention, so I would read it, and gradually I began to like it. And here I am...

But... If something happens, which I hope doesn't, and I pray to God that it doesn't. This site and the sister site will never be the same at all.

I found both simultaneously, but lurking here is how I validated that it was legit and gained confidence to take advantage of the sister site. So I'm from way back, I used to keep my computer dialed out all night, while everyone slept, so I could idle on IRC running an DCC bot. I was an op of a newnet channel called TFWO when I was like 13 lol.

It was a much simpler time back then. I remember my 9th grade summer, my IBM Aptiva 133MHz Pentium had Windows 98SE on it, because I had borrowed a friend from schools copy/key. However the computer came with a pre-release of WIndows 95, and it was kind of horrible but also the disk was really old and shot. So Window 98 shits the bed right as summer starts and I try to restore it from the Aptiva CD but its too scratch, and shits the bed in the middle of the install. Oh shit. My mom didn't have money for computer stuff, I inherited it when my grandpa passed and somehow I learned a Cincinnati Bell Fuse.net Dialup test account. I had a special number I had to use, and some really generic username and password but it worked all of high school. Anyway so there I am no Windows and school is 2 or 3 months away. Then I remembered a friend at school had given me a RedHat 5.3 Disc Set. I had no idea how to use Linux, I had maybe used Zipslack prior to this but I didn't have a choice.

Took me a week to get back online using just man pages because it was nothing like linux today. I remember having to configure pppd in console and trying to figure out to dial out. It was a pain, but I felt so accomplished. As soon as school was back in or I could get out to my buddies house to stay the night I had him burn a copy of the disk and write the key on it lololol.

Actually I don't even think i had access to a CD burner back then, thats probably I had trouble.
