This guy's has proven to be a great mix/mastering tutor. Passes on some brilliant, 'get to the issue' points.

Anyway, he threw his own mix of the song presented into the fray, so kudos that he's brave enough to lean his own tracks up against another bunch of outfits.

The end reveal was kinda shocking in the one instance, in particular. What do y'all think?

Very interesting. It seems like we all have different listening environment and taste. The MIX 5 was definitely completely off ( I don't know why he thought there was no low end, that was about the only thing there was and the highs. But there was no mid lows therfor no body but the low end was all there. Maybe he need a sub) but I think MIX 4 was also the second worst. The boxiness and nasal characteristic of his mix really threw me off. MIX 2 did sound correct on Modern standard but I don't think that fits the genre. The 1Khz to 3khz was too upfront and saturated in busy parts imo. Still , I think that was the best mix of them all. MIX 3 vocals were too upfront. The mid lows were good. MIX 1 had sibilance in the vocal which ruin it then the drums get lost.

My ranking :
2 (saturated highs)
3 (Vocals too upfront)
1 (Sibilant vocals and loss of clarity and details)
4 (nasal and boxy)
5 (no body)

It is indeed correct that most people simply adjust the material to their listening environment.
And even worse, the vast majority of the "mastering" guys do the exact same afterwards again.
