But don't expect a drop in and for the magic to happen. I imagine he does a lot of processing to get them to sound like that, as they quite often sound short to make them punchy, and like the transients have been manipulated as well as layering and EQing etc. It's not a case of dropping something in and voila, or everybody would/could do it!

Skrillex (and dubstep in general) is the total
opposite of "crisp" or "clean". Anyway, you have to compress, distort and eq most sounds.
No one can give you further details (that can be quantifiable in terms of levels and whatnot) because is really a matter of how good your ears are in getting the right sound in the context of the entire mix. Make music. A lot!

The closest I have got to a Skrillex type Drum-kit is using a very dry kit from Addictive Drums... (I cant remember which one), an EQ, Ohmforce Ohmicide, and then a Waves L2 Limiter to smash the ever loving **** out of it

As far as I remember , the fundamental snare sound is done purely in FM8, and then processed and layered with other sounds. Obviously this evolved as time went on.

This is what you’re looking for.

I actually had a go at making a Skrillex style drum sample pack based on his 'Quest for Fire' album. Check it out here and let me know what you think!

the "which sample pack he uses" approach is wrong, imho

(I am not referring just to skrillex or whatever, but to any kind of music)

Also, without money is hard to reach good results. And I am not referring to buying milions of sample packs or plugins, I am talking about time and money needed to study music, electronic music production and audio engineering

"where to study and what to study in order to obtain a certain result" is the right approach
