How difficult is it to change humbucker pickups on a guitar?

That's how I normally play to be honest, but recently been using the neck pickup more for a more rounded tone on the lead sound, especially during soloing etc.

LOVE this video tutorial though. Simplified the process so much in my head and made me less fearful of it

In the video above, her uses 0.022 orange drops, which are mostly used on single coil guitars. 0.047 are the ones mostly used on dual humbucker guitars from what I can gather.

With a dual humbucker that will have a coil split, is it best to go with the 0.022 or the 0.047?

It will be mostly played as a traditional Les Paul, using the coil split for specific tracks/style or acoustic simulation.

It won't make as much of a difference as people claim it does. Either will give you about the same frequency response/cutoff freq, they'll just alter the taper/feel of the tone pot a bit. A 47 will roll off more top end when the knob's at zero.

If you play a bunch of sludgy fuzzy riffs, you might want the extra cut of 47s. If you mainly use your tone knob just to gently tweak your tone a little bit, 22s will be fine.

Same goes for brands of caps too - the only reasons orange drops are talked about so much is that they had a good balance of being both fairly consistent and cheap, plus a bunch of nostalgia - they don't have some kinda magic influence on your tone. But like, if you have the guitar open anyway and wanna stick it in, it's not gonna hurt anything.

In terms of how bright your guitar sounds, the value of the pots has a much bigger influence - the higher the value, the brighter the tone. Most people prefer 500k with humbuckers.

Needless to say, I let him test at their place when I picked up and never plugged in myself, having since dismantled it all down to the bare guitar

So, I'm now in my week of working this out before I hopefully do the upgrade in about a week's time. Here is what I've concluded so far.

Having chopped the quick connects off the end of the ProBucker pickups, I believe this is the wire set based on research online:

The wiring diagram I intend to follow, is this one, using the volume pots for the coil split (ignore wiring colours as it differs to above, so will be amended to replicate above ProBuckers wiring obviously):

Les Paul Coil Split (Volume Pots) Modern Wiring.jpg

However, despite recognising it's hugely ambitious based on my limited knowledge as previously mentioned, I am also toying with the idea of trying to work out how to add the phase switch to bridge pickup and it's tone pot by trying to merge the below with the above in some way (if that's even possible?!):

    Phase Reverse Switch (Tone Pot).jpg

And then to the other tone pot, to add a kill/mute switch, by integrating this wiring solution:

    blog-diagram-what-is-a-killswitch.jpg

However, the phase and the kill switch are both experimental and ambitious options, and in all likelihood it's just the initial coil split diagram I will be implementing unless I get enough help and confidence in the solution to wire in the other two options too

When I was 15 in grade 10 I was the first student in electronics class to get electrocuted.
I'm dangerous inside the box so I stay outside of it.
I've learned the hard way to buy the guitar I want with all the features I want in the first place.
That way I don't have to spend my time and money constantly upgrading.
Also, it gives me no excuse to not play :winker:

Bought a cherry burst Love Rock made circa mid to late 80's back then. A long standing, very comfortable playing favorite of mine.
