Guys I just wanted to share an experience I had this week that drove me nuts.
Had a mobile setup running with ryzen notebook, usb soundcard, external ssd, mouse and keyboard- all in all nothing fancy.
It just didn't work well. dropouts, stuttering. But all those components had worked before in a similar setup. Long story short: It was the USB Hub. I have several of those 4 port Anker USB hubs. they just work, never had issues with those. So I don't know if it was broken or was one of my older ones with a firmware that wasn't up to more modern ryzen chipsets. Whatever it was, it was hard to find. It worked perfectly well as long as there were no usb 3 devices involved. the moment I plugged a usb 3 ssd into the hub, stuff still worked, but badly.
I ordered the exact same model again, and that one just works fine as expected.
I'm just writing this to make us all keep in mind: When it comes to computers and something's not working right, it could be anything. I swapped every component in that chain, but wasn't clever enough to think there could be something wrong with the usb hub.

 

Have you tried another hub and if so, did the other one worked properly ?

 

I haven't tried hubs yet... I wanted to know more about why I'm not supposed to use them and was hoping people could share what they're doing.
