Hi just some experimentation going on here. My aim was to do something I've never done before.

    Opinions and criticisms are welcome.

This was done on my laptop and bluetooth headphones so excuse the mix please.

I'm conflicted about the song itself.
Can't decide if I really like it or love it.
As far as genres go, this is a 70's Electronic in 90's style.

    Cinematographic electronic music ?

The mix doesn't sound half as bad as you seem to imagine it. I actually don't hear anything that is out of place.

So that makes it 160's then right? :P

It would fit a suspenseful action movie scene. Not sure if musically it needs to fit in any genre, seems to be more suited for film imo. Mixwise your pretty safe I think, except for the bass frequencies that seem a bit out of control.

edit: lol I'm also hearing the 90's intro news programme now

This is IDM for the opening credits of a 90s evening news program.

Thank you all for your replies!

It's amazing how we can be sub-consciously influenced by the 70's - 90's and not realise it.

11 years is a long time, but one can see all that time spent helped you get a good solid low end, and also a much smoother overall feel to the track!

I like it. It reminds me of some Recoil tracks from the 90s with these sudden changes of scenery. I would lazily classify it as Electronica.

I don't know what genre it is, but Experimental is a good catch all :)

It is pretty neat though.. I like the drums and that metallic thing that plays throughout (starting at 0:30). The main bass line (that starts near the beginning) is pretty groovy too.

    Nicely done!!

Another vote for the mix, I don't know that I would screw with it at all LOL. As for genre there's certainly some early 80s new romantic synth vibe ala OMD maybe? Even though the beat is a little modern for that that's what it reminds me of more than anything else.

I would go with IDM also, but without the more out-there glitching and so on. the style reminds me of Boards of Canada a bit.

80's electronic/experimental. Pretty much sums it up. There is no fluid progression to it. To me thats what it seems like at least.

This is like a more modern version of Tangerine Dream circa 1975
I found it creative - if you scroll through this video below, you will understand why I suggested that band.
