Night mode/dimming your blue light can make a huge difference. Looks weird, but better for you.

    I use
    F.lux (freeware), for PC, Mac.

While it relieves eyes strain, it won't save you from degrading sight due to years intensive and/or short distance reading.

avoid white GUIs, also on day.

Flux is a good idea for nights.

You can rest your eyes, when you go outside and look into a far distant point. This also work in the night with stars, try to look as long as you can. It will relax the eye muscles.

I have been working lots of night. My tips are never stare screens or TVs in dark, always use basic lighting in background. Second I keep books right next to me so I can read every now and then something that isnĀ“t backlit. These really help me a lot. Also stretching eyes can help, even though it might look wierd

Hi, I suggest flux as others are saying, but also invest in some good blue light-blocking glasses. Being exposed to all the blue light our monitor screens and mobile phones expose us for are contributing to insomnia or taking much longer time to fall asleep. Of course, this can vary between people, but in my experience, using these glasses from 6 PM to midnight enabled me to fall asleep fast and have good sleep quality.

Also, always use dark mode in all gui's, if available. That will be much softer for our eyes,

    Glasses I'm talking about:

there is a dude named Andrew Huberman, he's a PhD. he's been on Joe Rogan before and I think he's kinda bro sciencey - but not with optics, that's his specialty. he has a few long podcasts about optics and vision, specifically with screen use in modern age. has some with other scientists too.... you might find those interesting. he's got a channel on YouTube.

basically turn your shit down, and in my opinion id do what I do and send an external display port/HDMI out to an external monitor. my laptop is basically just a desktop, mouse keyboard monitor.... but yeah plug into your TV or something so you can dim it and get away from being inches away from a light source. will REALLY help you fall asleep if you pay attention to dimming things at night.

This is so important I'm amazed is not being promoted actively by institutions. Actually the rule is to match the lightning to your screen "lightning".
Of course during daylight conditions this is not a problem for your sight.

if at all possible, use an external monitor. (and kb/mouse, too). You can do all these tips to make things more comfortable and so you don't end up with migraine headaches every day; and you can still end up needing to wear reading glasses for a normal print book. Lots of laptop typing for years (and most other flat keyboards); can send you down the path towards Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. No thank you.

    What works for me:

Dim lights on if it's dark, slight backlights on the keyboard (easier to find keys without squinting), antiglare glasses (or whatever they're called), eye drops (moisturizing kind) every now and then, regular breaks where you can hopefully stare in the distance. Helps with concentration too!

Try ocular gymnastics, there are tons of material in Internet.

Some time ago I significantly corrected with it my visual acuity from -5.5 dpt to -3 dpt (but then gave up). It's really helpful if you want to save your eyesight.
