is as soon as you wake up from sleep. This is a tried at tested technique for me, works without fail

no brushing or looking at phone just open up the daw and press a key and watch inspiration/creativity take over your body. you have to do this without ANY prior thoughts, just go in

@Trurl is right. For you, it was 2 weeks ago, and you missed it. Sorry bud!
For me, I usually start at about 4:20 for the obvious reasons.

Also, your suggestion doesn't work for someone who never falls asleep. Oopsie!

I'm not "making beats" but composing, and I agree that this is one of the best moments for creativity.
Not the only one, but one of the best.

It's got to be late at night for me when I travel into a parallel universe. I can work on stuff during the day, but all of my best creative ideas are generated after midnight.

it's one of the best times for mixing and re-checking. it's one of the closest things to a set of fresh ears you'll get all day.

Looking at how people use "making beats" and "composing" today, I don't think that there's a clear distinction ;)

that is the best thing to be done in the morning or the moment after you wake up and got a nice fresh bath. I do this everyday and make notes about anything I discovered to work on later. I find that the best time do creative stuff (for me) is late at night. I spend the day doing stupid shit like the business side of stuff, cleaning or just simply living. I wake up at 4pm everyday though. None of the music stuff make sense around on the daylight, as it's hot af here.

I don't do ''beats'' as much as I use to as I mix others projects but nowadays, when I wake up at 4 am, I'm taking the time to do my bed, make a coffee, drink a glass of water then open a project I'm mixing. I usually fawk around for about an hour then jump in the shower and do my morning shake. I then return to the project and do another hour or so. Then off to the basketball field for 30 minutes, another quick shower and another hour of mixing or project building/organizing. That's usually the end of my morning. Then I go about my daily jobs and take a nap right before lunch for an hour or 2. Sometimes I keep on mixing if I'm motivated, if not I simply don't force it and let it happen when I have the drive to do so. It seems to happen per phase. Some period of the year (usually 3 different period of 2 months each), I can work all day on music projects, some other period I restrict myself to the morning routine so I don't get fed up.

olymoon uses a quill and parchment- he's composing.

also safe to say everyone has different times they are feeling creative to produce, mine vary for sure but I feel like it's a hard truth that the best time to review a MIX is with fresh ears in the morning. I'm sure I'm the only one ever to have rendered a song out then cringed in the morning.

It usually happen to me when I hit send and listen to the song again after sending the email. I don't understand that phenomenon. It's like if I suddenly get some sort of uninvolved criticism when I cannot change a thing about it anymore. This part of my brain has always been a huge mystery to me. There has to be some sort of logical explanation and a way to counter that. My only way around it, if I have unlimited time to work on a project, is to let it sit for over a week and come back to it when I forgot about it completely.

I'm flabbergasted by this phenomenon, really.

EDIT: If you suffer from the same issue, don't ask chatGPT why this is happening. You might not recover from it. :suicide:

this is shrodingers (sp? I'm on lunch not looking it up) cat for music. before its observed by someone else it's one state, then after it's another. I go out of my way to suck up the cringe and play songs in front of people when I need feedback... they don't need to do or say anything just all those little things that I sanded down in my head but didn't actually do (I'll fix that snare later!) jump out in a situation like that.

my 2 cents is that KNOWING this will happen- fake it out by sending it to a friend who is critical of tunes, or some method so you have some time to fix whatever got missed. but there is a switch that flips in your head as soon as you show it, I've found. I know a song of mine is getting close to done when I don't have any real reaction to someone listening to it

my internet is too slow for chatgpt throttled to 50kbs. I'll just keep talking to myself, same thing I'm sure.

It was not mentioning the schrodingers cat but other stuff less ...apreciable, lets put it that way. But great comparison.

I love the idea of faking a send to a friend. I mean, sending it while knowing he wont listen to it before you need to send it to the client. That would actually totally work.

    Thx for the trick !!

I get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I go to bed.

Right before we fall asleep, our left brain, the logical/analytical/verbal etc. half, winds down and our right brain, the creative/intuitive/non-verbal etc. half, is set free for a long solo improvisation.

When we wake up from sleep, it takes a while for the left brain to kick in.

So at that point creativity doesn't take over. On the contrary, you are actually just catching the echoes of the overnight spectacle in your head.
