I think that modellers are getting there but I don't think that the dynamics are there yet nor do I think that they are at the amp in the room stage. Close but no cookie from me.

I haven't quite given up on Tonex yet and I've went back to auditioning profiles and I can't quite believe how bad some of IKs own profiles are.

I've included his free captures in the "by_user" db. I try to keep it updated every time Rodger releases a new file in this thread.
Let me know if there are more users with less than 20 models worth including there, I can add in my script.

Why did you stop uploading full libraries, if I may ask?

@Davman countless well known guitarists use digital modelling on tour.

Some of them for decades (like Dino Cazares, since 1998  when his JCM800 was stolen).
He even recorded some albums direct from Line 6 gear.

Megadeth Quad Cortex, Metallica Fractal Audio

    https://www.guitarworld.com/news/dave-mustaine-megadeth-neural-dsp

I could this on a whole page

To me, the Kemper was the first convincing feel/sound solution for a broad audience.
And it was a clear advantage to profile the studio sound for stage
It was more than 10 years ago already.

To get the "amp in the room" feel, you just need a solid state power amp and a good cab (regular speakers OR Celestion 12 inch FRLR speakers).

My Tonex pedal goes directly into an EV EKX-15P 1500 watt powered 15" PA speaker.
When I turn it up ever so slightly the whole room resonates.
A pair of these is the ultimate FRLR system:)

Actually I'm still updating it, I'm doing an update right now just in case I've missed some of his posts.

    TONEX PEDAL OWNERS
Can I use the pedal with a helix stomp or an Ax8 (For delay and stuff) send the signal to the foh and have the same signal to the cabinet on stage for personal monitoring?

Yes I know, Neal Schon also uses Fractal on tour. I've had an FM3 a Boss GT1000 Core and I still have an HX Stomp. I also used to have a MKIII MESA Boogie which weighed about the same as a small Sun. So I know the advantages vs the disadvantages.

Who knows maybe I will save up and buy the new improved version of the FM3? The simplicity of having a secondhand tube amp along with a torpedo captor x for home practise appeals to me. I'm in no hurry, I go through phases of wanting stuff that I usually can't afford.

Maybe I could go for this cheaper option. Micro Darks are really cheap on ebay and could fill the gap while I await the next big modeler breakthrough.

Once I received the FM3 I had a quick look through the presets. I had only scratched the surface when I had to put it away for two weeks as I was very busy at that time. On the third week I finally had some time to take a good look at it, I had just started to get some really good sounds when I noticed that the USB port had started to become very loose. I contacted G66 and they offered me a repair. I did not think that offering a repair on a three week old product was good enough. I was still in the refund phase so I opted to get my money back. After a bit of research I discovered that quite a few FM3 owners had the same problem as myself. Some had opted to buy a short USB plug so that they did not have to directly unplug from the FM3s USB port.

To cut a long story short I would say that I much preferred the sounds that I was getting from the FM3.
To me the other units had better build quality even though they are cheaper in the UK than the FM3 is.

The Cores interface is very poor and looks like it belongs in the 90s.
The HX Stomp has a much better interface and has regular updates. Also, if you buy a secondhand unit you can still register it with Line 6 which will give you access to customtone and free preset downloads.

The thing that I really dislike about the FM3 is that the European price is a lot more in the EU than it is in the US. That's a lot of money to pay for a product that has now been replaced by a newer model.

I think that there are other cheaper units that are good options though I've never used those.
Unless you are playing live my advice would be to stick to software until the next big breakthrough. A.I. operated modellers are bound to happen sooner or later. You can also get a good idea of what the HX Stomp sounds like via the Helix Native software.

I would say the same for the TONEX pedal. I would never buy the first generation and unless you're playing live the free version and updates that we are getting here make it a no brainer.

This is why I'm thinking about buying a used tube amp for practise. I can buy a used Marshall Silver jubilee mini head for about £500 here in the UK knowing that it will not be replaced by a newer silver jubilee head next year. Also buying 2nd hand means that it will keep it's value and could even increase in value over time.

Most of the great guitar players had only one or two unique sounds. When we hear them play we know instantly who they are. Having all of these sound options that we get from TONEX and modelers is great but for me it makes it harder for new players to find their own unique sound. It's great if you're a producer or session player. But it's like going to Miss World and trying to pick one girlfriend from ten times the normal amount of contestants. It's choice overload!

It's not really much of a review. If the FM3 wasn't so expensive (at least to me) then my expectations would not have been so high. As it was I kept thinking about how much it had cost me rather than the sounds that I was getting from it.

Maybe the FM3 MK II Turbo has solved the USB port issue and is now worth the inflated EU price?
I'm probably going to sell my HX Stomp as I hardly use it and keep going the plugin route, though I may buy an Orange micro dark to see if they live up to the hype.

Is it possible to export the txp preset files from the databases, without needing to edit my existing database file?

I spent quite a bit of time downloading presets using the last but one version from the other site. Though I only downloaded presets that I was interested in and I won't be doing it again as per the instructions in that particular release. So don't expect any updates.

There are Facebook groups, but I've never bothered joining them. Maybe there are groups on Reddit and other language groups and forums? You could use Google translate to change English to Chinese and search Chinese groups etc.
