Does anyone have an Alesis Strike Multipad drum sampler?

I have just purchased one from eBay for a decent price but the seller did note that I would have to download the 6GB Factory Content of Samples from InMusic after I created an account with them and registered the device, which I thought would be easy enough.

I have created my account and registered the devices serial number but under downloads for the Strike Multipad it only has the following

Offer: Two months free of Antares Auto-Tune Unlimited

Software Downloads: Ableton Live Lite 11

I am a bit stuck, I have searched Google and it doesnt seem to bring anything up on where I can obtain this.

Does anyone have any idea on how I can re-download the Factory Content which I believe is something like 8000 samples both drum one shots and loops.

I did have a look but didnt see anything.

I dont even know if the factory default samples are stored as just WAV files on the device so they could be backed up off or if its some Alesis proprietory sample file system.

Adding your own samples is just WAV files and they work fine but I just dont have any factory content samples.

A friend has a Roland SPD-SX Pro and you can download the factory content to restore to the device from Rolands website, I thought Alesis would have been the same but it appears not to be the case.

Lemme rephrase, have you asked the support?

 

I have not posted anything in any other forum yet but I am going to have to as I thought it would be so simple to download the content and restore the data.

I did send a support ticket in using there online form but got a reply saying that as I purchased it second hand and that it was now out of warranty there is nothing they can do.

Oh, that's not very nice. I mean, if you own the license HW, you own the license HW and should've access to the all the software it's delivered with, right? Maybe another member can help?

I'm sorry to hear that you are going thru something like this, it is completely nonsense and very upsetting.

I had similar issues with native instruments and I didn't even have the receipt. I got what I wanted from them at the end.

Here are my tips:
- Always ask politely but firmly to speak with someone else, customer support emails are monitored. You can also submit a new ticket.

- You have to read the Alesis end-user license agreement EULA. ( very important )

These are your arguments:
- You own the Hardware.

- You have paid for it. ( attach the Ebay invoice )

- You are not asking for a freebie.

- The included factory library is advertised on the website as part of their selling point. ( I've just checked ) That is called false advertisement.

- Although the hardware is no longer under warranty, the device is not functioning properly due to inadequate software support and backup tools provided for repairing software failures, including the sound library that came with the unit.

If you receive an email from them that seems incorrect, respond confidently and attach receipts and a screenshot of their website highlighting the factory library. Ask the person to indicate the specific section of the EULA that supports their claim. If they are unable to do so, kindly request that they contact a member of their legal team.

You have to be patient and play the game with these companies, often the person you are talking to is not fully qualified to attend to your demands and they'll rather turn you down.

Another option is to find a FACEBOOK Group of the Alesis machine and ask other members for a copy.

I'll rather make the person on the other side of the email spectrum suffer ( metaphorically speaking ) and get what is yours.

How to perform a factory reset on an Alesis Command module
This guide will show you how to return the Command’s module back to its factory settings. Follow the instructions below to get started.

1. Press Kit, then press Menu to enter the Kit menu.
2. Use the Up and Down buttons to navigate to Factory Reset, then press Enter.
3. Use the Up and Down buttons and select what settings you want to return to their defaults:
   • Kit (user kits only)
   • Song (user songs only)
   • Voices (user voices only)
   • Trigger settings (all trigger settings)
   • All (Every setting mentioned above)
4. Press Enter when you see “All data will be lost! Enter or Exit?”.
5. Wait a few moments for the factory reset to complete. Once the display reads Reset OK!, press Exit to return to the previous page.

If the factory reset does not reinstall the samples, I think they are inside the firmware update. there is a 1.5 gb binary file in the archive. Nothing else about this unit should be that size file.

Wow, didn't know Alesis was treating legit second hand owners of their products that badly. That certainly will make me stay away from buying Alesis products (no matter whether first or second hand).

 

I f you think the previous owner has not properly presented the purchased item, remember that you have the opportunity to do a return for funds within the Ebay buyer protection guidelines. Credit card company could also force the issue.

This of course if you do not want be bothered with trying to figure out work-a rounds for a now unsupported product.

 

It would appear so, I sent a second support ticket into them and this is the reply I got. What a cheek.

“Thank you for contacting support, unfortunately as this unit is now out of warranty and was purchased on the second hand market we cannot get involved with taking any time to look further in to your issue, buying second hand devices or more importantly devices that are out of warranty are the responsibility of the purchaser alone and not that of Alesis or InMusicBrands LLC. I have however taken the time and trouble to send you some links to retailers in your region where you can buy a brand new unit that will come complete with all factory data and a standard limited warranty.

 

The advert did say I would need to download the factory data but I thought this would have been a very simple process, to my surprise it’s not. The device does work and I can load my own samples just would have been nice to of had the 8000 samples factory data. Pretty disappointed with Alesis to be fair and disgusted with their attitude.

I was going to buy a brand new unit but thought fuck em, so I purchased a brand new Roland SPD-SX Pro instead. Still a shame though.

I did go through the factory reset, first thing I tried, but it doesn’t restore any samples, only system data.
