Actually for any/all TRULY NEEDED issues where a REAL security patch/update must be applied - they are there for WIN7 as well... In fact I just applied one (manually installed the patch after identifying the need) the other day to all my internet facing boxen.

Well not technically (Yes and no), for one its not planned b4hand, if planned it would have become obsolete on Jan 2020, so now it has become "Forced Obsolescence".

 

Microsoft plans the obsolescence of all their stuff years in advance. Sometimes they may fudge the dates (sooner or later) but the PLANS for obsolescence (i.e. "removal of support") are there. Microsoft is not the only one who does this, although they are one of the only ones who makes the information public.

 

Yeah, I Know. That info can only be public, becauz its a public company. But during this era, as usual mangled with with and underneath a web of other info. People dont know what to believe, they ignore the info altogether.
Discussing it about this will leave us a conspiracy theorist.

I even use Windows XP for some programmers and a parallel port.
And I also use Apple xServe 2009, which was turned off in 2011 (12 years old). On which flashed firmware from MacPro5,1.

 

I've an pc with it 32 bit version to use my s3000 with recycle and mesa via scsi

 

My music PC and laptop are Win 7 Ult.and are offline , I use a win 10 PC for net purposes. I don't care what others think or do, my systems work and satisfy my requirements.

I just got a message from Firefox saying that this is the last version they'll be releasing for Windows 7. I set my machine up as dual boot in December last year, but I still spend 98% of my time in Windows 7. Now that Firefox will no longer support it though, I expect I'll gradually start moving over.

I hate it though.

 

That's surprising. According to Firefox' Public Data Report, 13% of Firefox users are on Windows 7.

 

Sometimes I think, when I read the same questions, not only here but also in other places, like for example, 'how to fry an egg.' Surely you'll find hundreds, thousands of videos and pages telling you 'how to fry an egg.' But it's like there's a need to communicate, to obtain new answers, new perspectives, etc. Personally, as long as respect is maintained (which should always be the case), I don't see anything wrong with asking something again. I'm not trying to disregard the rules of this site, I'm speaking in a general sense about what happens across the web. I believe that reformulating or approaching things from different angles, or simply having a fresh new conversation, is not a bad thing. And again, as long as respect is maintained, which should always be the case. You can have 10 threads about how to fry an egg, but if the discussion is healthy, you might find interesting answers in each thread. I don't know, it's just a point of view, maybe I'm wrong. With that being said...

I agree with No avenger. In a way, it feels like you're forced to switch operating systems because I also felt that everything worked perfectly with Windows 7. However, some plugins started to not work on Windows 7, especially their latest versions. I believe one of them was Melodyne, initially. So, you start to wonder if it's worth changing the operating system for just one VST, but then you see that more issues arise. Even the latest update of my DAW, in my case, Studio One, doesn't work on Windows 7. Sure, you could use previous versions, but you're enticed by the new features because you know they'll be more useful for your projects, so you decide to switch operating systems.

Personally, I've always found it difficult to switch operating systems, and I think it's because you already know your operating system, you know where everything is, how to quickly access different settings, and operating system changes keep happening. It's like going to a supermarket to buy something and they move all the products from one aisle to another. You were used to going to a certain aisle to get your cookies, but now they're not there anymore, and you have to learn the whole store layout all over again.

Why? I have frozen FF versions on my internet facing systems a few years ago (which are all win7) to version 8x. I never allow it to update since I detest having to rebuild my browser config every single dam time and it's NOT needed. If you keep patched with the latest browser exploits usually with 3rd party tools you do not need to keep updating these browsers.

 

Which pretty much proves the point of all proponents of Win7 that the media hype about "the world coming to and end by your use of unsupported systems" is pure poppycock.

 

What's the problem with just continuing and using the last Firefox version that supports Windows 7?

 

Heuristically I found a positive correlation between a) developers who release plugins that run perfectly fine on older systems and b) quality and c) longterm maintenance (eg updates, bug-fixing) / consistency!

On the other hand developer who release stuff that requires the latest OS and hardware setup to run frequently have a poor understanding of coding and rely on frameworks and generic / default code too much (such as using the latest version of JUCE with default effect classes not knowing how to write custom code or how to do bug-fixing and optimizations). Often they release one or two plugins and you never hear of them again.

 

For my main DAW I am still on Win7. If I start Win10/11 upgrade tomorrow then Win15 should be released around the same time that I've installed all the Audioz
