    can i save a web link as a file on desktop, to double click and open

    if so how?

    right-click on your desktop -> New -> Shortcut

    Easier, mouseclick-select the "http://......" from the address bar of your browser and drag/drop it onto your desktop.

    On the address bar of your browser just click once to select all of the link then drag and drop onto your desktop, you can do the same thing for hyperlinks and basically anything that takes you to a new page when you click it.

    Not that more help is needed here, but for absolute quickest way to do it... will just say that in most (if not all) browsers that the little symbol to the left of the address can be dragged to your desktop. You don't have to select anything first, just drag the symbol to your desktop, or file explorer, or whatever:
