So I'm trying to figure out how to move the Keyscape folder to a different drive. Now I know that i can move the entire STEAM folder to a new location and point the program to it after the fact. In this case I only want to move one of them because my 2nd drive can only hold one of them. There simply isn't enough space for the whole STEAM folder. I tried creating a shortcut link to the folder after moving it but that only produced "not valid STEAM folder" message. Does anyone have a workaround or some info on how to move this folder?

 

mklink /j "c:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM\Keyscape" "X:\Library\Keyscape"

mklink /j "c:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM\Keyscape" "X:\Library\Keyscape"

1. Make sure there is no folder named Keyscape (not even an empty one) at c:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM -- so that the command can create the symlink called Keyscape

2. I thought is obvious, replace the X:\Library\Keyscape with whatever is the path you have the big Keyscape folder. If you have it at d:\Keyscape then use that

3. Save that command as a link.bat file, so you can quickly edit it and re-link if you get a bigger drive and decide to put everything together.

 

I do but i understand what he was trying to say. X can be any of my free drives or whatever.

Hmm. I haven't tried this. Not really hip to command line stuff. I will check it out though. Besides i tried all the "linking" using the shortcut method. It still gives me an error about an invalid STEAM folder. Its no issue if I put the folder back though. I'm able to similink the STEAM folder but not the Keyscape folder by itself without the STEAM error. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...

You certainly are doing something wrong. As @lxfsn symlink done properly in this instance WILL and DOES work. You are not familiar with command prompts? Don't worry about that shit. There are easier ways. For example:

It's usually useful for the people who are trying to help if you can tell exactly what happened, or even better if you can show it. Hard links are extremely powerful and will work even in places where you shouldn't be using them. That command should work on any elevated instance (aka admin) of cmd, no extra knowledge required as long as you understand what you're typing:

• mklink >> program used to create symbolic or hard links. Works anywhere in the system since it's a built-in tool.
• /J >> creates a folder junction. Also known as a hard link.
• "C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM\Keyscape" >> path where you want to place the phantom Keyscape folder. Adjust to where your STEAM folder is, and attach "\Keyscape" at the end.
  
• "X:\Library\Keyscape" >> path where the real Keyscape folder is currently located. Adjust to where your real Keyscape folder is.

 

Hmm. I thought it worked but the only part that worked was the command line. I still get an error about the STEAM folder location. https://imgur.com/X5f3i1X

These are the steps I took... (I used Trilian instead for this)
1: I created a folder on another drive "External Drive" D:/Spectrasonics Library/
2: I Copy/pasted the Trilian folder from ProgramData/Spectrasonics/STEAM folder to the D>Spectrasonics Library folder.
3: Then I deleted the Trilian folder from its original folder ProgramData/Spectrasonics/STEAM/ folder.
4: I used cmd (as admin) and copy/pasted the command from the post in this thread (changing the last parts location to match my directory location). Cmd says it was successful and now I have a shortcut link named "Trilian" in the ProgramData/Spectrasonics/STEAM folder.
5: Now I open FL 20, add Trilian to the channel rack... Then the error.

Am I missing something?

Just smartassing - when asked, can't you just 'locate the folder'? (either symlinked or the new original). Long time no Omni&Co. on my comp, but I think it worked ok back then.. maybe only /w the whole steam though

Edit: I meant to re-locate the STEAM folder with proper sub-folder structure inside. Now, that should work with real or symlinked sub-folders inside ..aand now I'll STFU...;)

OK, I got it. Thank you guys for the advice and info. With this last detail it all comes together now. The STEAM folder has to be created in both places. Thank you all for your time! You can consider this solved!
