I just realized that the plugin requires an online connection to work. By the way, can you tell me how well the rotary version of the UAD performs compared to other options out there?

I usually trust UAD for the sound but recently I tested the UAD plugins that I won through Spark and it appears that they do not operate offline. Is there something that I may be doing incorrectly?

It's surprising that there isn't much discussion about the Eventide version.

It might sound ok on guitar but as a true Leslie simulation on an organ Spin is hot garbage.

    Imho, ymmv obviously.

    For me , too

I am very tempted to buy it because the demos sound good for my taste . But it just will not work for me if it requires an online connection . Can anyone confirm ? Some comments on the UAD website imply the same thing , the FAQ there imply , it can be somehow connected to an ilok dongle . It is not clear enough for me.

I don't find it surprising tbh. Compared to a real Leslie, I don't find it halfway authentic sounding, it's rather an effect on its own. Eventide have done other effects that sound much better.
Got a Ventilator pedal here and it's quite good, as is the one included in IK B3 and the one that comes with VB3-2.
Meldaproduction MRotary is definitely one of the better emulations as well.

-For realism it is a tie between UAD and GG. The GG has more parameters and options (different cab models, mics), but it does have an overall tilt towards the treble end and gets grainy sounding pretty quickly quickly. Has lots of room to explore sounds that are tweaked out Leslie effects.
-The UAD has more body and a rounder tone. UAD has fewer options but what it does do is great. Although with limited range. It is more of a take it or leave it situation with minor tweaks.

-The Eventide, like others said is not very realistic, but a solid concept effect and has a wide range of options for creating non-standard Leslie effects. It is more of just the Rotator component in a larger chain of effects such as mic models, speaker cab, preamp, and room simulation.

You can use a dongle instead of wi-fi connection. I use it in live performance. The difference in the UAD rotary is it only has a 122 Leslie emulation, where as many other rotary vsts provide many more cabinet models and tweaks. BUT, as of this point, the UAD is very superior.

I've been playing REAL B3s with Leslie cabs since 1967. I KNOW how they sound, and how to push them to whatever I want. I stopped carrying those heavy monsters many years back, using hardware emulations (that suck) and finally vsts (better but not quite there.). I settled on IK B3-X, until the UAD. The UAD Leslie is much closer to the real thing, but not yet.

This is much like dialing in guitar tones to find the one that gives me an orgasm. The same way with Hammonds and Leslies. My ear is different, as everyone else. We all hear different things. Right now, there is nothing like siting next to a real Leslie cab, the rumble from the Bass, and the wind from the rotary. It is the whole experience. I own damn near every Hammond/Leslie emulation, and the waterfall, and IK are the best so far, at least to my experienced ear.

    IMHO

    Cheers

Most Leslie sims get too warbly/whistley in the high frequencies. IK is better than most there, and it's good in how changing the mids effects the overdrive. I thought VB3 v2 was a big step backwards from v1.6- the old one had a growl as yet unbeaten by anything I tried, though overall it was kind of dull in some undefinable way. Right now, for me B3-X wins overall though I still pull out the older GSi for dirty stuff.

All that said, I haven't tried Waterfall yet.

GG Audio Spin is amazing has so many features ,but most of all it is 20 mb in size doesn't hog resources at all. Try it and you'll see for yourself I've been usint it for about 10 years mostly on guitars and keyboards and it sounds as good as the real Leslies. If you want the spinning Leslie sound on your guitar just like the Hit singles of the 60's and 70's this is it. You can replicate them exactly.

Can the UAD do "MIDI learn " (to assign the drawbars , C/V, Perc . Their Moog apparently cannot ) ? Or do the controllers on the keyboard have to be matched ? Before I buy the required dongle .... Thank you

One of my very favorites is MVintageRotary from Melda Productions.. They also have another one called MRotary... but the vintage one is THE ONE! I've tried them all but there's something really special going on with the Melda offering that just does it for me.
