It's been in the making for 3 years, and after a lot of hype from its accomplished beta testers i have been very curious to hear it in action, now it's finally out.

The audio demo's sound great: https://www.schwabedigital.com/

For those that don't know, it's emulating the sound of mastering grade converters getting clipped, a trick that mastering engineers used to do to juice some extra loudness out of a song while still retaining the perception of punch. And to my ear it seems like this thing acheives that. But it's not just a clipper, those gold and alchemy knobs sound like tape to me. It does something reeeeally nice to the sound. I'm excited about it

    Anyone tried it out yet?

Where is R2R when you need them (of course I'm referring to reel-to-reel tape)

The trick come from high quality FILTERING, not clipping itself.
Clipping will always create harmonics. The more you push, the more you get aggressive high freqs.

But if you find a good way to filter those harmonics between stages ... you basically recreate what guitar amps makers do for decades : PLEASING clipping
Reason why tubes are praised : they filter the audio by themself, along with a softer clipping.

Without filtering/EQ between stages, you get harsh clipping.

The best simple video about it :

To summarize : you can't recreate this effect by just putting a nice high freq EQ at the end of the chain (like
    Abbey Road Studios Brilliance Pack).
Filtering/EQ need to be done IN THE CHAIN itself, between stages.

And see the pugin itself : there are 3 sections
    Clipping, compressor and tape

You can create your own "gold clipper" by stacking clipper, filer/EQ, tape sim ... (like mastering eng do for decades).
Here you just get "all in one" solution

On the bright side, it only has "gold" on the name. No God, God Particle, God-testicle, God-Mode,...

Edited (half year later): wooow, what ratings. Is this what they call "less is more" ? Suits a lazy-ass like me like a glove...

maybe his intention was to name it GodClip but decided took an extra L early knowing he ain't gonna beat StandardClip ?

Also I don't trust a guy that pronounce the "LUFS" as "looofs" instead of "Loves" like a normal person does.

The harmonics there are created due to the curve shape like in any other waveshaper too.
I'm just saying this because there are a lot of free options out there that mathematically work the same. (Audec Shape Lite 2 for example)

What I'm not getting is the continuous reference to Lavry Gold Converters but the clipping shown on the plugin itself doesn't seem to be any different than what can be achieved with say StandardClip or KClip - talking about the meat of the plugin here, not the extra sections. Am I missing something?

Damn, my client actually likes the gold clip version very much... Is there someone here who can explain the processes?

Clipping is self-explanatory, and it seems like "gold" is a wave shaper and Alchemy a High Shelf?

But I'm not sure if it really is that simple. Are these functions basically the same in every plugin?

But then i really wonder why it took three years to develop if these are basic functions?

    Yes.

Maybe they took three years to evaluate how to sell. Or maybe they are not that good. :dunno:
Doesn't matter anyways. Understanding foundations however is important.

These are likely refined custom saturation curves shapes, not using pure waveshaping, that emulate closely how lavry respond.
Probably hard to match the exact shape using a waveshaper clipper

What are you thinking about this?

Maybe it was a deliberate marketing strategy to built up curiosity among potential customers? What I find interesting is that Jatin Chowdhury of Chow Tape fame is the coder of this plugin (not the owner of the company releasing it though). Based on that fact I expect it to be a good plugin, maybe with a bit of a questionable price policy and marketing strategy of the Schwabe guy...

Could be. I don't need Lavry.
It still is important to understand fundamentals.
