I recently found something I think might benefit my UAD people when buying and using plugins:

Here is a chart identifying how much DSP each plugin will use(Tip: legacy plugins will use less dsp than paid version).

This next link notes latency added by each plugin. While the plugin runs at near-zero, the gear it's emulating has inherent latency(Tip: Ampex tape machine cannot be used in real-time due to oversampling(larger number in chart) but you can use the Studer tape machine instead at real-time without noticable latency.)

screw UA. I dont like Iloks, I dont like their prices and I already lost a bundle on the UAD1 with so-called "legacy" plugins of theirs that they wont make good on. I'm waiting for the warez'd natives period.

 

UAD have always had the same quality as Waves

 

Meh, having a pricing conflict shouldn't diminish the product. like me having bad experience with RME and BAE sellers doesn't mean those products are not top of the line.

Let's agree to disagree. My band has had constant issues with Waves plug latency and crashes. UAD on the other hand stable like a rock, latency free, and heck you don't even need to to open a DAW for it to work - we did entire shows arranged within the ua interface console alone.

Since you're Waves plugins are working for you, move along and let other people enjoy their preferred plugins.

I've wanted to try UAD plugins, and particularly their Culture Vulture, Studer A800, and the Sonnox Oxford Inflator, for the longest time, but I just hate the idea of having to use iLok to authorise them, especially when their reputation is in the gutter:

You know the only people that are going to that site to file a review on Pace are the ones who have particular grievances, intense dislike of dongles, issues in the historical past, and no one who likes it, or has no problem with it, are going there to write something nice... so it's not like you're going to get a well-rounded, non-biased review of the situation.

You may dislike Pace intensely (I don't love iLok, and I dislike Pace as a company for a bunch of reason) but I don't have any problems with iLok for years and it's largely quite a smooth and simple process. Plugins take longer to load due to the unencryption, but it's not the end of the world.

I do wish UA would offer machine licensing though. Cloud or dongles can be problematic for some use cases.

 

UAD has fierce competition now. They're not the only lions in the jungle how's used to be. Acustica Audio, Plugin Alliance, Slate plugins, T-Rex just to name a few are giving same if not best quality for some emulations and consoles. The plugin quality escalated quickly on last decade.
Off course they still have some gems but they're being thrown out of the throne. So that might explain those sales

 

Funny how folks try and put words in your mouth. There was never a debate concerning the quality of the UA stuff just the business practice surrounding it. R2R or some scene group will get them unveiled and then we'll jump all over 'em...

 

I don't use both of them and I find them mid-range, they don't deserve that hype imo

 

But, you started your original comment with "UA sucks." Maybe make less general statements if you don't want to be misinterpreted.

I'll go to Waves plugin posts and say "these all suck." When all the rage replies come in I'll just respond, "oh, only because the company name starts with W. Don't put words in my mouth"
