So I have just looked up Cakewalk as I thought this was a DAW of the past and just got myself up to speed on it being re-released and saying its now free. So I have a couple of questions for any cakeheads.

1: Its is really free or is this only for some lite version of the DAW with a purchasable upgrade option
2: Is it actively still being updated and maintained or is it just it is what it is now
3: What's so special about Cakewalk comparing it to the DAWs of today.

Would appreciate anyones points of view.

Yes, fully free. Moreso than Reaper, technically.

Yes, still being actively updated- for tge time being. Although will there ever be a real overhaul to a new version, who knows...

That I can't tell you. But it works for me...

 

I think here is the problem... W11 is a truly pain in the ass. And, which gen of the Scarlett? One of my bests friend have to move from their Scarlett gen 1 bc the drivers freeze Windows

The Mac software for the 18i20 MK2, switched from older "Mix Control"; to Focusrite Control. I cannot comment on Mix Control, but you cannot use it with the later MK #. It's hard to believe the newer software is an improvement, because it is pretty bad. You might be a little quick to blame Windows. It frequently gives "No Hardware Found" error and needs to be restarted, and then maybe it will work. maybe.

for both my decade long M-Audio Audiophile 192 run and other setups ive run, ASIO4ALL has still offered the lowest useable sample rates and best performance overall
its also more stable in recent versions
set buffers to 4 or whatever
worth a shot if driver issues are in play

That was a rather fun post OP! yeah, I went through the same experience with Ableton Live, painful months trying to learn it just to find out it wasn't really for me. We shouldn't limit ourselves, we are competent enough to master every type of software out there and use every software that we consider useful. There's no perfect DAW, understanding all these tools is all there is for us.

FYI the mix was made as a tribute for the loyal fans of c.c.catch a retired singer from Germany she was very popular in the 80s
last year i contacted her to do sfull album for her but she refused and this mix was supposed to be extended version
on that album ,my team decided to drop the full album and just do 1 mix for YouTube channel ,that one mix reached her management
and they contacted my team (team66) asking to put the mix on her channel and it draw over 1 million views in few months
the original track was slow ballad but my idea was to turned it in to disco style so i recomposed everything from scratch
and sent the un-mastered version to my team for proper mastering and play it on out main YouTube channel


the sad thing we didnt get no money,and we didnt get no thanks letter from her or her management,
and all the work we made were on 3 DAWs (mine was studio one and my team use FL studio and logic at their home )
