There was a time when it was about music, before the millenium, when the event was still called "Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson".

In the 2000s it was renamed to Eurovison Song Contest and then it became all about Show and Performance. The last one was completely political: every country gave their highest rating to Ukraine – it not because of the quality of the song…

 

The whole thing is a hilarious spectacle. Pure entertainment.
Occasionally a decent song comes out of it, but that's not the point at all.

 

Understandable making that assumption I suppose. Of course, if you had read my previous posts you would know that I HAVE watched it before and as for using the 'propaganda' card against me? You might want to use something that isn't so politically motivated as your example in future. The ESC is as political as it gets when it comes to the voting!

The Eurovision Song Contest is reason for being is to make a fuckload of money for the company that owns the rights to the title. It isn't about the music but about the money made from people calling (you can vote up to 20 times) to vote and reaping the fees that each country must fork up (about €350,000). It is a not for profit which means that at the end of the fiscal year their can be no money left over which means the principles get a hefty yearly pop of cash. See you in Kiev!

 

I absolutely refuse to watch this nonsense, the sooner it's killed off the better. Does anybody know what channel it's on?

I stopped watching it, when countries startet to give 12 points to their fellow neighbor countries, and vice versa. Nepotism at it's best, I'd say.

 

I wonder how many kids have their sexual awakening watching Eurovision.

Seeing Tajči bounce around the stage in 1990 in a tight dress with heels and nylons awoke strange things in me. I'm sure Lordi had a similar effect on many kids.

 

I just hope Käärijä doesn't win, I can't even listen to radio at work because it's on every fucking channel. I hate that contest, always have.. People already booked hotels here for next year contest, because they're sure Finland will win

Besides the "sympathy" votes between friendly countries... Didn't really start to go to shit when regular people could vote by internet or even SMS?... some stuff like that

Here in Spain we had the first national-wide epic trolling like a decade ago. Users of the bigger forum at the time (forocoches, like carsforum) decided to promote as the national candidate for EVision a comedian who made on purpose a lame-ass song in every possible way.
He ended winning the national poll and sang i the EVision 2008
