    Harmon's are really low, nearly out of hearing range, but cramping
    occurs @high frequency but oversampling to the rescue, cant remember
    4 or 8 times ("eats" up resources quick (on older gear) clears it up.

    Ha, perfect hint, done (I used an EQ preset,:facepalm:, that's a first :rofl:).
    So, I matched Pulsar's 8200 with EQuilibrium's version of it in PD. First time the unusual phase twists matched!
    Soundwise the same result as with Kirchhoff. In a double blind test Pulsar's sounded less open and punchy.

    Some time ago I made a comparison soundwise. Adjusted, 250 pretty much equals 200, 200 sounds worse than Kniff Soma and Soma worse than AA Azure.
    SPL PQ sounds worse than Azure too (haven't compared it to the others, though).

    Additionally:
    - As long as PWR is on, there's a low cut at ~ 20Hz and the high freqs above 20kHz are falling in level. Nothing audible, but technically interesting (OS doesn't matter).
    - You need to adjust Q and gain for bells, Q, gain and freqs for shelves to match with digital EQs - both of which is common but additionally its output gain! The more gain you dial in (+ or -) the more the overall level is affected in the same direction!
    - The deesser can reduce up to 35 dB, input independent, but produces harmonics and thus aliasing AF.
    - The phase twists are extremely wide (neither good nor bad, just different).

    The same happens in a lot of AA stuff (with the pres), same, OS doesn't matter. I always wondered if that was a plugin thing or part of the hardware because it doesn't happen on all emulations, seeing how PA's does something similar (although way less gentle) i'm assuming it's the latter.

    can you please explain this. As for how I use it, I think the parallel EQ is great at doing bass shifting (cutting 30Hz, boost 40Hz vice-versa, maybe lower, higher, depends), which is close to each other but at lower frequency where the wave length is longer, so you'll get near perfect shifting curves, other EQ and LP kinda makes everything sounds blurry. It was meant to be a little phase twist (almost All-pass filter like the Kilohearts Disperser) instead of EQ and that trick is known to tighten the bass. I learn this from a book long time ago, don't remember which one. I think Waves R-Bass and some CLA plugin (maybe CLA Bass) has this built-in but using them on the bus changes the sound too much so I started using EQ with parallel filters.

    I have not tested this plugin yet but there is definitely some hype around this company.
    Even AA plugins have some hype around them yet they mostly deliver and nebula/AA are the top.
    Imo these plugins are at the same level as PA, which means they sound really good, yet are priced a lot higher.

    Ok, let's see/hear TDR Nova (parallel) vs EQuick (serial), 12dB low cut at 30Hz, 6dB boost, Q 0.7 at 40Hz. Where is which? https://gofile.io/d/RMJIxH (I haven't made it too difficult :winker:).
    IOW, in theory you're right in that parallel and serial EQs can sound differently. But even if you can't match them by 100%, 99% is sufficient, IMHO.

    So much wasted screen estate… for buttons… Instead of biting the look of the ProTools stock eq, they could at least have bitten a GUI which actually makes sense on computers. Like the one from ProQ3

    That's it for me. Equilibrium with 8k2 preset, analogue phase, at the highest lengh and 2x padding, peaks and shelves parallel. I doubt you can find a GML emu that sounds better than this. I don't want the harmonic distortion, that's why i prefer Equilibrium for GML rather than Amek or Pulsar. If the real deal was designed to not distort (physically impossible goal at analog domain), i will follow George Massenburg concept and use the dream colorless GML that's only available in a plugin format :chilling:

    Has anyone tried the GML 8200 option on the Sonnox Oxford EQ on Pro Tools HD? If so, how does it compare to those mentioned above?

    I opened plugin doctor to see those two harmonics that the pulsar 8200 added and try to match with another tool. The Prebox from Analog Obsession at -24db of input (AGC on) with the F2Ban setting will generate those exact harmonics on the same frequencies at almost same level (-100db). If you want the GML "color" (remeber, our boy told it's a stompbox) you can try it out

    EDIT: Britson channel also produces the same harmonics, but at a higher level

    They only added those harmonics for marketing. If it is up to them or any proper mastering engineer ever, all would've prefer the cleanest possible. Those two lines of harmonics just there to prove that it's an analog emulation because people won't buy it if it's clean. All new PA EQs do that, but just 1 line after the Bettermaker, Dangerous BAX, the first bx_2098 and SPL Passeq stopped getting the attention because they just modeled the curves but the plugin is clean without harmonics. People be like "oh I could match it with Pro-Q3" "it's not possible for hardware EQ to not produce harmonics at all". They add 1 line of harmonics, suddenly it's an analog EQ. If we ask the person that originally designed the damn thing, if it's possible to make the analog EQ super clean without harmonics generation, they would've done it for the hardware without even thinking twice but it's just not possible (as far as I know).

    If you say you Modelled specific Gear People actually expect

    It's marketing since the harmonic distortion emulatated is not the one that's inside the hardware box. You can see Paul Third's video about it, plugins actually distort much more than hardware units because people that never touched analog think they are stompboxes of color, but they are just tools that eventually distort due the overload. If people wanted distortion, back in the days, they would break tubes or use 1176's, fuzz pedals or some stuff like that to get the grit.


    Now it's just an analog looking GUI with a pair of (even and odd) harmonics :rofl: (at the best scenario)

    he said that even when not noticable @-65db, like you said, "they could have done without"
    but they tried to stay true the "emulated HW"

    and i dont know why you think no one here worked with hardware
    People give just their opinions, just like me
    besides, not even the OG Weiss was without "color"
    You always get the "sound" the HW Enginers decided/Liked
    Different in DSP of course:yes::no:

    Sone day I want to do a blind listening test. We'll take a piece of audio, do an identical boost/ cut at three bands at a q setting they can all match and we'll see who can identify which eq is which.

    I think people here are very smart, using hardware or not; my criticism is towards the plugin industry that emulates (exaggerated and generic) distortion for the sake of it, even if it's meant to be a totally clean unit.

    I'm just saying people give more attention to distortion than cramping, for example. if it's clean people say "it's just another digital eq", even without eq cramping, analogue phase, etc. But if you put one line of harmonics, people will start to hear the "warmth", even if that distortion doesn't look anything like the hardware, the eq cramps at nyquist, for common sense it will sound "analog" just because of distortion.
