I also never heard of this Atlas OS mod before. I was happily working on W7 but that bliss was gone when I couldn't upgrade Studio One to v5/6. I did not want to go through torture of installing new OS and software with thousands of plugins on outdated computer.

This month time has finally come to replace my old PC with 13900k based system and I am looking into OSs again. As before I will try to stay with chosen OS as long as possible and that is why I have to go with W11 and not W10.

Now in the context of Atlas W10 mod I wonder is there similar stripped version of Windows 11?

    Now this is isn't strictly on topic but it is related;
If anyone has useful suggestions regarding how to install and tune W11 to work best with DAW it will be appreciated (besides the links already provided in this thread).

Is there a way to move VST2 and VST3 plugins from W7 to a W11 on a different machine?

IMO, I will not use WIN 11 until all of the bugs are ironed out. WIN 10 is just about perfect. I haven't had a crash with W10 since I can remember. Only crash I can remember was from a buggy plugin here and there. So, I'm ridin' out into the sunset w/ W10 until 2025.

If I were you i would research whether or not you could smoothly upgrade W10 ENTERPRISE / W10 LTSC 2021, in-place to WIN 11 in the future. If so, then install either W10 ENTERPRISE or W10 LTSC 2021 and upgrade to a (hopefully) stable/stream-lined W11 OS in 2025.

    Just my $0.02. :)

if it works don't break it. I've seen from the "out of memory" crisis that
    1. I'm already making my music and
    2. I don't need anything else.

This apply mostly for laptop PCs but also if you have problems with desktop PCs :

The only Windows 10 version that comes without heavy DPC latency is v1809.
With v1903 and up DPC are a nightmare to handle.

If you really want a DPC latency free Windows 10 then go for v1809, disable Wifi/Ethernet/Bluetooth, disable onboard audio (use external audio interface), disable gaming GPU (Nvidia GTX/RTX) and use onboard GPU (more than enough for any audio apps).
Disable any anti-virus, Windows search index, CPU Throttle, use max power settings and always use PC on AC power (never on battery).

That sounds silly to use a 4 years old OS version, but fact is that Microsoft doesnt care that much about DPC latency fixing on their most recent OS, and it really sucks !

Wish I'd known this before my install... I have version 19044 apparently...

I keep getting massive delays on Ableton, it locks up at times. Arturia is a culprit but there's other things like Ableton's Wavetable Synth. I click on a track and it takes ages to switch to it. Same when I use a Drum Rack with other Drum Racks inside (one Pad of the Rack for Snare with various Snares to scroll through using a Select Macro) - that can take ages to show the track when I click it... Feels like this might be related to the DSP tweaks they've screwed up since then...

Any idea where to get a copy of 1809? I probably had a copy and got something more up to date and made things worse

The graphics card is fixed, I don't have onboard and I bought a gaming card especially for its power. I installed driver only for it. I thought this might be causing issues so I tried AMD's software and got no improvements so I removed it again

Same, but when I tested it clean on VM it ranked the lowest process number compared to all others stripped down Win10 versions I tried, it's a good starting point.
I don't clearly remember, it seems to me was 40 or so while others started from 70+.

Atlas OS is set of scripts, and they remove "too much" from Windows to be considered a daily use OS....

I use his debloat scripts on all my PCs and am very happy with the result.
His Atlas video here above makes me curious. When I can make some time, I will make my (99,999% off-line) Studio PC a dual boot system and give Atlas a try.

The current OS running on the Studio pc is the one I made by following 'Ultimate Windows 10 Install ISO' which runs flawlessly. So I am interested if I get more juice from my old i7-4790K using Atlas. I will post my findings here.

Just to be sure I am safe, I have a question.
The studio PC is connected through LAN so I can reach my inhouse Synology server and the NordVPN app on that pc has the 'Internet Kill Switch' enabled so it only connects to the internet when I switch on the VPN manually (which I hardly ever do).
Anyone here knows if this is a bulletproof way to be offline but still be able to reach the server? :dunno: At least in my mind, it is..

not sure how convenient it could be, but if your Synology has 2 (or more) ports, you could totally run a completely separate network:
either directly connect your DAW PC to secondary Synology network port (with static addresses assigned) or get another switch with DHCP to make your LAN-only network,
then you could leave your primary Synology network port as it is now, with updates, quickconnect etc.. accessible

Reading their 'https://docs.atlasos.net/getting-started/installation/' I assume it is. You first have to install W10 and activate it and then run the scripts they provide. If I am correct these scripts delete things in the OS and do not install things from the internet.

Thanks for the very quick answer tzzsmk!
It does have more ports, the only problem I am running into is that I only have one LAN cable running to the NAS (which is located upstairs behind a closet, I can not hear it there) I tried to run 2 cables but it is simply too narrow.
It would be the best and most elegant solution!

I would say debloating software/scripts is not a good idea if you want to update Windows in the future. Can create more problems than it solves.
I use the latest version of Windows 10 22H2 version 10.0.19045 Build 19045 with no issue. Only optimization I do on my system:
    - Power Plan: High Performance
    - Nvidia: Prefer Maximum Performance

It is not true. You can have debloated Windows 10 and you can download service packs and install them. (I did it all the time with no issues)
and yes, there will be issues with MS Office and MS Store App (but you were informed, right?)

It's good if you only want to use it for audio or gaming, and that's the reason why he made it.

Now it's not possible to download directly an iso, previous version it was.
