    Hello Linux users,

I am trying to install the Nembrini Audio plugins. I started with Nembrini Audio EK Edstortion Bundle from the sister site. Right after running the install program, I get an error:

    https://www.directupload.net/file/d/6900/aog5adll_jpg.htm
I tried other programs from Nembrini Audio, but all with the same error.
It has something to do with Microsoft Visual C++, but I have no clue if this is possible in Linux?

Anybody knows how to solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Paul

Yes, I am! Usually I have no problems and have been able to install several windows VST(i)'s. Sometimes I can install and then the plugin does not work properly, but in this case I immediately get an error when trying to install.

I hope anybody has a clue to solve this!

I got errors like that with warez on Linux too, probably some issue with custom installer, legit installers actually worked for the same plugins, don't know the solution unfortunately. Maybe somehow unpacking that installer and putting resources manually?

Yes, best is when I can use a no-install plugin, but as said usually installers work. I somehow suspect that the installer expexts some kind of Microsoft Visual C++ library or so. If I only knew what library and how to get it working in Wine, maybe then it could work.

I hope somebody has the knowledge of how to get this kind of programs working in Linux!

Yes, I already use Winetricks, but that does not help. There are however Microsoft Visual C++ packages I can choose to install, but I don' t know which. I could try one, but I don't want to do just something I have no clue about.....

By use, you mean you already installed that one, seems like that solves problem for most of the people, this guy even have it done live

Hi Zeljko, thanks for finding that video!
At first I thought this is a bit outdated (2010, but according to one comment it is still working in 2023).
So I just tried installing that vcruns6sp6 via Winetricks. Unfortunately I got an error. Then I tried to manually install vcruns6sp6, but that returns: "warning: vcrun6sp6 installation failed".

So I am stuck. According to R2R they say: Runtime Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2022 (x64).
I guess this is the one library that is missing. But I cannot understand the impact of installing this, since I am not quite understanding what is is for.

    Anybody knows?

Guess they are relying on it for the installer, that's one of the essential things I would install on fresh system, especially as I liked having some kind of light version of Windows and than would download all-in-one pack from here. It's pretty standard thing, most app's even prompt you to install the version they are using, some don't, so it's always good idea to have them all just in case.

As far as getting them to work on Linux, know even less than you, your best call is to open a thread on some Linux specialized forum or WINE one, someone will jump in and give you all the info and solutions, seems like it's something they are used to troubleshoot for years.

    I think so, too.

I tried using WINE just recently as I feel very comfortable with just Linux compatible plugins and I immediately encountered problems with bloody MSVC++ shit and I was able to install Windows plugins only after installing the newest ones and then work your way to older ones if necessary. So first try the 2022 one.

    Cheers!

The problem is that I want to understand what will happen when I install something. When trying some things yesterday, I somehow lost information in my taskbar: there used to be some kinda strip over the icon so I knew that program has already been started. Now it is gone.....that is the price you pay when you install things you have no clue about......

I'm a little confused because you're not installing anything in your Linux OS, just in WINE. When you uninstall WINE, or rather "purge" which uninstalls WINE configuration files, too, everything should look the same as ever. Even with WINE installed and all MSVC++ libraries installed your OS should look the same. When I installed WINE there was no change in the looks or function of systray, or taskbar of my OS. It could be different in your version of Linux distro, though. I'm using Debian distro with MATE desktop environment and Metacity window manager instead of MATE's because it's lighter and better.

Anyway, try installing those MSVC++ and see how it goes. Remember that you're installing something into a virtual, emulated WINE run Windows, so nothing gets installed into Linux. You will probably need to install some older one or two, too. 2017, 2015 perhaps, or 2019-2022. I've been out of Windows for quite a while so I'm not really in the flow. :) I do have Windows10 (used to be W7 for years) on my laptop for controlling the mixer app of my TC StudioKonnekt48 and running a few VST plugins but that's all. I don't play with it much... I have VC++ 2019-2022 installed in it for now and it seems enough, but I'm sure I'm going to have to install some older ones if I wanted to run some older plugins, which I don't want to right now.

    Thanks for chiming in SineWave!

Yeah, I was confused too! So I think I must have done something wrong myself. The good thing: my Timeshift appears to work so taskbar problems solved. Also IrfanViewer and Total Commander did not work anymore and now are working again. Second good thing: I am going to have to make a test situation so I do not jeopardize my main system any more!

I saw in Wine al lot of MSVC++ libraries, but only until 2019. And since R2R mentioned version 2022, I was wondering whether installing the older ones would be of any help.

So I am going to make a test system to experiment with for these kinda things. Since Timeshift is working very fast, messing up a test system is not a big deal. And then I will have 3 systems: one main system to work with (which I misused to test VST(i)'s because I thought that was possible without problems), a main music machine and now a test machine.
Well, it comes with a prize when I want to experiment!
