Greetings all,was just curious if anyone knew the best screen capture software to use to make tutorials? I've tried Camstudio 2.7 r316 and Camtasia 8.1.1 build 1313,neither seem to work quite right on win 7 Pro 64 bit, they work great to capture the screen, but audio doesn't seem to work.I can get my souncards line in to record but no output in the video if I use FL Studio,Studio One,Nuendo,Cubase, etc. Are these not compatible with asio4all?Is there a screencap recorder that will work with asio? I've read somewhere that camtasia will work only if you pick the default recording device driver in FL studio but the lowest I can get that is like 45ms compared to 12ms with asio4all. Any of you guys have a solution or advice,it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :beg:
(Also not sure if I made this topic in the right category or not,if I didn't I apologize)

I use on Win machine: Screen-o-matic (free) as 15 min capture / best work for me, so I capture 15 minutes videos (part 1, part 2, etc...)

On my mac laptop I use QuickTimePlayer integrated feature screen recording (with SoundFlower) or ScreenFlow (paid variant) as best.

    hi Levitate,

FIRST: after using camtasia (to long, cause i found it sucks: to overloaded, to hungry for ram's \ cpu's) - > i changed into "INSTAND DEMO" (btw. "demo" is not maned as something like "trial", this is the soft-name (based on demo-video) - you should give it a try cause it simply makes all needed things VERY FAST without lag\slow your machine.... but there is one thing that it also not is able to do,

SECOND: your problem in trying to capture also the system sound at such a capturing process REALLY fail on ANY capture app (dont try to leech any a viable in the hope one of those works) - to solve this problem you have to take alternate solutions (one of them is eg. by manually configure your audio-hardware and countless things inside various windows settings in combination with camtasia settings...) - the smartest and (i think) most used way to solve it is by using a third-party tool wich is called "VIRTUAL AUDIO CABLE" -> i decide you should go into this thread which took some time to understand how it works, but i promise you: all other solutions steels you DAYs :)

some later... I DECIDE ADDING ALSO A QUICK TUTORIAL:
1\2: no matter which capture app you use-> install the Tool "viratual audio cable & configure \ add the virtual Cables you need.. If done: start your DAW\AUDIOAPP (which you use for the capture plans) and configure the audio out (instead of your usual sound card-out) into:
    LINE 1 (VIRTUAL AUDIO CABLE)

2\2 Start your Capture tool, go into the Setup and change the Recording Settings for your Recording-Device into:
    LINE 1 (VIRTUAL AUDIO CABLE)

    have phun...

After long time usage of Screencast-o-matic free version I found it's audio mono capture :(

Now I install Camtasia but also found that I have CPU glitches when I'm recording the screen. Probably I must try this with virtual cable.

Hm... and what will happen if I doing this:

    1) Camtasia - capture only video
    2) use other application for capturing audio
    3) then join video and audio together in Camtasia

I use Movavi. Look it up. You can also get it from the softarchive (dot) net website.

I've probably tried all of the screen capture apps for Windows and for free Greenshot is by far the best but for paid both Screenpresso (feature-rich and streamlined interface) and Faststone Capture (best scrolling capture) are my top pics. A few years back I would have said Snagit but since then it has fallen behind the competition.

thanks for the screenpresso, work fine, I have no problems at all, only thing is I again getting mono audio :(

My capture audio comming from monitor and it's set as stereo, but the final sound is mono.

SnagIt also mono capture only :( what's this ?!???

Camtasia has an option for stereo.

Sorry but I was mainly referring to screenshot capture tools.

As for screen recording apps, there is nothing better than Mirillis Action for high quality content.

For animated gif tutorials, Cockos (company behind Reaper) has a great little app called LICEcap. Very simple and gives you great results.

Though there are many online recording tools for you to choose, I personally suggest you download third-party software to avoid choppy recording. VideoSolo Screen Recorder is one of the reliable software that is safe and records screen action without limitation.

OBS is great once you understand it,
if you need something simple, Bandicam also used to work very well

I used Camtasia on Win 7/8/10 in conjunction with "Virtual Audio Cable" (see sister site) to route and to record system sounds.
If it's the best, who knows?! But it works just great.

AFAIK none of them offer support for asio audio drivers. If you absolutely need to capture the audio with the same program, you need to either physically or virtually route the audio.ยจ

If you are not doing live streams, you can just record the audio with your daw. FL Studio, which you say you are using has the Edison audio recorder. Use it.

Syncing the audio with the video should be a breeze. If it is a problem, you probably shouldn't be doing tutorials in the first place.

For screen capture I would recommend checking out anything that can take advantage of your video cards hardware encoding capabilities. Use the highest available bitrate and you should be fine. Most modern cards have this capability. I'm pretty sure you don't even need external software with NVIDIA card. AMD implementation is called VCE. Google it.

edit: didn't realize this was a 4 year old thread
