I can second that. I have a hardware Juno 106 and Model 84 absolutely nails it. In the mean time I have lent the Juno to a friend and I'm not missing it.

 

It's such an iconic synth that has been used across so many genres. Can I borrow your 106 after your friend has finished using it?

Absolutely one of the best softsynths made. It has some volatile analog warmth, no other Juno emulation comes close to it, the next best comes from Roland itself.

Been on sale for a while now, but I hadn't jumped on it. Think I will today though, based on the glowing reviews here. Always looking for more good retro-based soft synths. Edit: bought it

It's more or less an identical copy of the real thing. So what are your first impressions? I'm still running the demo, but I am going to get it as it fit's in with my style of music. I've got an old Alpha Juno which may be seeing less use, as the Model 84 suits my Kemper based digital workflow.

Well, I haven't had the pleasure of using the real thing, but I am liking this a fair bit so far. I've used other emulations before (like Cherry Audio's and Roland's) and did like those (although I actually dislike Roland's soft synth UIs, tbh), but I'll need some time to really compare them. I think this will end up being the winner. I've always like the simplicity of the interface of this synth.. it's easy for someone like me to do sound design on it, unlike say something like an MS-20 or CS-80.. I just get overwhelmed with synths like those and have no idea where to begin. I'll need a bunch more time to play around with this though, but I like it!

The cons to it... not really a fan of the preset UI (may just take some time to familiarize), but it's OK... and of course, I hate iLok and those managers like Softube Central. But, buying this actually finally pushed me to install some other Softube stuff I got for free but was afraid to install due to running some sister site stuff (Dirty Tape and Tube Delay). All this stuff and the sister site stuff play together nicely so far, thankfully.

 

Doesn't Softube have machine activation which means you only need to activate when installing? My demo is working ok without an internet connection. My audio PC is mostly offline and I use Simplewall to block everything if I ever need to go online, and I just let through what I need.

All Softube plugins are iLok protetcted. I grabbed the installers from Softube download page and don't have Softube Central installed. It's optional.
Their legit plugins work along with releases from sister site without any problems, though.

 

Tested it but kept Juno cloud and original hardware over it (no other reason than already fulfilled), by the way it was twice last year on sale for $39 for those who are buying it keep on eye

 

I actually just went through the Softube manager thing (Softube Central?). I am not sure how that works, but it installed some updates to iLok/PACE which I'm not really a fan of. My only worry every time i use iLok is that I'm not sure how things work if I update major hardware and forget to release the licenses.. i.e. can you recover those licenses that were locked to the machine? If so, then I don't much care.

Anyways, I don't think you need iLok running for it to work, no, so looks like it's just machine activation as you say.

 

I've always installed everything through the Manager but do the individual installers let you select what format plugins you install or will it still install everything?

 

You can request a licence release for redundant machines in the iLok app.

 

Individual (manual) ones install everything. I just delete the format I don't use and keep the ones I want
