hi everyone i believe i blocked ilok a while back on my pc when using wearz, but since then have gone legit with many of my programs. needless to say i cant use them because i cant login to my ilok account. i cant remember how to unblock the website. i think i remember adding the ilok website to a line in a notepad way back. can anyone assist? TIA

Wait can't you use legit iLok plugins with non-legit ones? Why did you block them?

thats a good question to be honest im not sure, ive been writing on my laptop for about 7 month and this is my first time back in my main room with my gear since then so im scratching my head at this as well . lol

 

Check and make sure you're running the latest version of iLok.

 

It must be the "host" file. There should be only one example 127.0.0.1 line and nothing else. Unless you're blocking ad pushers like I do.

make sure you made changes to the actual hosts file. Sometimes when you think you are, you're only working on a copy of that file.

 

How did u edit host file

 

I use Simplewall and I only let my browsers through by default, so maybe it's something to consider in the future after you fix your problem.

Hosts file should not contain .txt extension, try notepad++ run it in admin mode, or just open notepad in admin mode and open hosts file from inside tat

 

Aside from the information you've received regarding editing the host file .... What happens when trying to log in to iLok? Does it give an error message related to connection (or just spin away, forever) or something else?

Like @justsomerandomdude said though, the host file MUST have no extension on it.. and Windows hides extensions by default (much to my chagrin), so make sure you have those showing or that you know for sure there isn't a .txt appended to that filename (notepad automatically puts .txt on files for you too).

 

iLok License Manager scans your hardware and users and assigns a number - Location ID.
Sometimes, after changing serial numbers, hardware or users, iLok License Manager stops working.
You can reinstall it many times, it will not work.
The full reinstall of the operating system helps.
You can try to find where he hides the information, but so far no one has done it.

i will remember this next time i have to edit this file, thanks for that tip and info!

i could not reach ILOK at all on this computer, it would just spin.

it seems the issue was simply the Ethernet. very strange considering i could reach other sites just fine, i guess the ilok servers requires a better connection or constant connection. I'm not sure if its a cable issue, driver or port issue but after buying a cheap Wi-Fi adaptor for my desktop, I seem to be up and running again. but it has been narrowed down to that at least.
