any one using cubase on HDD ? how is your media bay results loading time? mine takes about 10-15 seconds to load results of selected folders and I don't even get why it has to rescan every time u reopen cubase. my main problem is with loading vstpresets, too slow killing my workflow, sometimes takes 30 seconds to scan all presets . I know HDD in general is slow but hey this shouldn't be a problem!!!. Fl studio browser is super fast , doesn't rescan everytime , same on the ableton e.tc . i reset cubase a number of times, same results.

let me put it this way get you a SSD if you want Cubase to be half as fast that it needs to be....so even with the ssd it's still behind when it comes to performance compared to newer daws ....its the old programming and coding they keep adding layers on top of layers and still not focus on performance they only care about features that they continue to not fix or improve on i been a Cubase User since the early 2000's and it seems like each update the program is gettin more sluggish...... just like when it comes to loading projects Cubase is slower compared to other daws i used .....its a great program but there are some shit that comes with it and that is that
and im a legit user i own Cubase

i will speak for Live here: i usually have my smaller collection of samples on my ssd (20GB), scans fast its the samples i use the most.
(i dont need to scan any presets as Live doesnt has any1 i would use.)

the other bigger library is on my external HDD, if i add new samples to that library, i let them scan and use meanwhile the other library (20GB on ssd). It works fine that way.
(i know Abletons Indexer could be better, but with this strategy it is in my way.)

Why are still using a HDD? no spare ssd space left or still on HDD for the whole system?
How are you even opening Cubase with a HDD? (i dont want to think about that today.)

I used Cubase for 6 years....I always had this problem , no matter if the samples were on a SSD , HDD or even on a Nvme SSD .....
This problem has always annoyed me a lot.
I am glad to have switched to Studio one.

Hi brazytupac. Create a volume database of the HHD in Mediabay where you have your presets and sounds. I hope that help you.

That's right. I have used Fl Studio and Studio One file browsers, they are both faster than Cubase's Media bay. It's confusing with a professional product

Of the drives on my system, all are SSD or nvme, except one that is an "Eco" HDD, low power, 5400 RPM, onto which I put ~300GB of samples from sample packs that I don't really care about. It's 9 years old, and I should probably get rid of it soon.
Anyway, once upon a time, when I installed Nuendo, I checked the box (in the left hand file browser) next to the folders I wanted it to scan. It scanned them and their subfolders--I have never performed a Create Volume Database as suggested above. Ever since the first scan, it loads up the folders and their contents as I browse, with immediacy. I click, and less than a second later the window populates with the contents.
I have heard about some people having loading issues, and I have also heard about more people not having these issues. If the software is solely to blame, wouldn't the issue be more consistent across users, as the only thing different in these scenarios is not the codebase but the hardware it is being used on and the individuals operating it?

IMG_20230617_221710.jpg A little workaround would be to turn off the "deep results" but then only the files in the selected folder are shown, which is much faster.
The only downside is, you can not search globaly for specific names, etc. Only in the folder you
    selected.
But if you happen to know your sample and presets folders, this might help a bit.
You also can do a quick re-scan, if you added or deleted something in the folders.

But yes, the Cubase media bay is far from optimized.

I noticed Padshop got quietly upgraded last week with the new browser from Halion, my guess, its coming to a Cubase version later this year. Its certainly well past time for an update.

the only solution I fine it's to use thirds part application like (loopcloud), i'm using my own library and make sync with cubase and juste drag & drop stuff on it, this is the best work flow to find samples quickly.
I wish Steinberg upgrade the browser and some other stuff like switching mono track to stereo track & make bus channel freezes options like pro tools & studio one.

If your are like me and have 6tb+ library of samples and loops. Then good luck. Mediabay has been shit since Cubase 7. We have been complaining about this for about 10 years... I do not believe Steinberg has a fix, or desires to deal with the problem. They just added Mediabay to Groove agent 5 and Halion.. Now both of those software are corrupted with filemanagment that is barely useful.. It takes almost 2 minutes to open the preset browser in Grove agent 5 to load a kit... AND PRAY you don't accidently close the browser auditioning other kits... Cause you'll wait another 2 minutes...

    I use M.2 SSD drives on a Ryzen 9 5950X with 128gig of Ram.
So lets stop talking about computers with bad performance.
This is a file management software coding issue.
    mediabay3.db

Even if you delete "mediabay3.db" and spend a few days rescanning all your folders...
You will still wait a minute for a folder of samples to open.

Even the Steinberg folders take forever to open in media.
Chord pads take about 60 seconds to open the preset folder on a good day.
