my current setup is 1ssd with win10 + vsts installed; and another ssd with libraries, samples and some other personal stuff.
can anyone recommend a good, idiot proof app that lets me just push a button and restore everything to THAT point i saved? registries, appdata, vsts installations, etc. kinda like "reset do default settings" in win10, but that's just a huge format.

my idea was to install vsts all on the external ssd, but for fuck's sake some of them don't let you choose the path, others just put the "uninstaller" in the path you chose, some miraculously work.

Next time, create a symlink to your "normal" vst folder, pointing at your folder in external drive. This way, you fool the system and for it, it is the vst folder , where ever it is.

 

You don't have to wait until "next time". You can move a folder and symlink to it at any point.
I use a handy tool for making symlinks called "Link Shell Extension". (Link in my signature)
It adds a right-click context menu to create and drop links.

I have my own location for VST files, and I then I symlinked the VST3 folder to a neighboring place on my C drive...

I keep all my VSTs on my system drive, because all the supporting data on registry info is there to match the VSTs.
I have a LOT installed and my plugin folders add up to 22 Gig. That is not much in comparison.

What I DO move is "generic" stuff that is large, (like libraries) and also Preset folders if I've added 3rd party stuff or organized them myself. "Tree Size Free" is my favorite for seeing what is taking up space.

EaseUS Todo backup is my favorite for backing up OS disks.
I'd suggest learning how to back up the OS disk.
NOTHING beats being able to restore things just as they were.
