Hi audiosexers. Long time no hear.

My monitoring isn't the best. I use yamaha hs5 (without sub).planing to upgrade to hs8 very soon. any ideas on the mix? The song is kind of electro pop / slow electronic pop.I personally am not so sure about kick and vocals. any feedback is much appreciated. Also am I overcompressing things?

 

Checked with Realphones with most settings, mix sounds great on every device, club, radio, mono cube and so on.

 

Works on my Mpow buds, sounds very nice.

 

Sounds great, one problem i see
the Vox clashes with the lead(woww sound)
i would use the vocals as a triger for a danamic eq, like hofa iqEq, for the mids - upper mids
2-4 db of reduction should lead to a cleaner mix. (especially during higher volume play)

hmm, very interesting take. Didn't think about it, but I think you are right.
It's also very easy to get lost with 120 ish tracks. so I guess another ear is always good

Ive been using the sidechain in soothe2 to duck problem areas to make room for vox. Put it on 1x sampling and its so fast and clean

I don't see problems on the mix. The frequency clashing is a normal thing in the 'real world' and of course you can carve down frequencies with normal eq eq or sidechain with dyn eq as the folks said, it will be cleaner, but not right or wrong. As long your work is enjoyable and not distorting in ways you don't want to, or squashed in a unatural way, for me it's right.

This is the main issue for me. I think the balancing part aka mixing ok, but i really think it need some polishment for consumer's ears. cuting off some resonances that are not musical, enhancing some feelings on the mix, making the tonal balance healthy and ready for the world.

 

Nice job on the track and this master snippet sounds pristine!

 

It's a great plugin for sure, if you put the time to get to know how music sounds on those different systems, might become even indispensable tool for referencing, doesn't cost too much, you can use it probably with cans you already got, plenty are supported, try the demo for sure.

 

Also a pretty serious negative correlation occurs, on some bass parts especially. I didn't address that because in a final mix it would imply narrowing of stereo image as a whole. It should be corrected before mixing.

 

I just checked with correlometer my bass bus. Yes at some notes there is some issues only because of second layer of the bass not the sub, but if I put it mono it's gone but then I lose some width?
