Hi guys. First post here. While there are trackers like Renoise, is anyone out there using older trackers or open source ones to create stuff like breakcore?

Ive tried protracker II clone, famitracker and schism tracker. Among those protracker was my favorite one. I dont think theres any competition in the market today for Renoise tho, its my favorite tracker mainly because it allows me to do a bit more than what I would be able in an old fashioned tracker.

yeah i am currently using renoise redux to chop up drum breaks, i do not believe you can automate macros/fx in it like you can in renoise though so thats a bit of a bummer. i think there is one workaround with using velocity or something like that but its kinda tedious

Started with Screamtracker, but if Renoise is good enough for Venetian Snares it's good enough for me.

I started to use Deflemask, mostly for retro video game music. It looks not too complicated for a tracker, and it has 8 soundchip emulations like, the NES, Gameboy, C64, Genesis ect.

I'm just a tracker beginner, but if I like the workflow I will check out Renoise for sure.

After the release of the current version Beta 1.2, Oskari Tammelin had to stop the development of Buzz because he lost the only copy of the source code due to a hard disk failure. Since then, there have been various attempts to either optimize the binary code of the original program through hacks or to program programs from scratch that are modeled after Buzz ("Buzz clones", see links).

There were also rumors of an official version 2 for years, but after Oskari Tammelin's almost complete retirement from the scene, this seemed increasingly unlikely. On July 2, 2008 Buzzmachines.com published the news that Oskari Tammelin is working on a new version, partly reconstructing it from old backups, partly implementing it from scratch. A beta version is already available and has been extended by numerous basic functions in the meantime.

I use renoise. Still new to the tracker stuff but I’m learning.

I want to start with trackers and want to know them as much as my daw... But it's kinda hard... Do you know good tutorials for trackers?

Mostly I want to do stuff in Bamboo Tracker because it emulates the PC98 soundchip, and I really like the soundtrack of the old touhou games.

Are Renoise tutorials practical, if you want to use a more simple tracker? I don't want to use renoise, but it has the most tutorials, so maybe I should use Renoise for learning trackers?

Start with whatever tracker inspires you the most (that's the most important), you will catch things along the way, trackers are more or less similar but knowing how to use Renoise won't necessarily help you with other trackers. Don't be afraid to learn, it's not super easy but it also isn't rocket science, you just need patience and not forget to have fun. Having fun is the whole point.

Thank you! Your message really helps for my motivation.

I'm just a really visual person, so working with numbers is really hard for me, but otherwise I'm really interested in trackers xD

If you learn how to write notes, rests and maybe articulations in trackers, it should be as simple as daws I guess.

I always liked MilkyTracker. It's basically like a modern version of FastTracker. Out of all thetrackers, it's the most straightforward one to use and good for beginners who want to get into chiptunes/keygen music.
