The hardware in it for sure isn't even worth $100 but you still gotta remember that it comes with both the ToneX MAX software and Amplitube. I know owning softwares probably isn't a concern on this forum (lol that's why most of us are here) but it's still great value at $400.
I think it's not made in Asia but Italy as that's what it says on the back of my unit.

I wish it did a lot more though, the tone is satisfying but you kinda have to plan your whole rig around it :dunno:

if you got that way ... do you really think Kemper (12 years old concept) is still worth 1800 bucks ?
Even Quad Cortex at 1800 bucks is more justified (touchscreen and more modern features).

IK are simply killing their concurrents now with a 400 bucks product.
Too bad they missed the FX loop feature, or a complete multi FX.

I think you'll see that feature plus a lot more in an upcoming product from them.

I don't understand why you need an FX loop, time based FX just go after the ToneX pedal.

Would anyone here be interested in trading commercial packs or running an exchange group like Kemper users did?

Simple : because IR / cabs are always at the end of the guitar chain
So effects need to be between amp and IR, in an FX loop

Of course, we can put SOME effects after IR/cab, like in studio mixing

Well fx loop comes between preamp and power amp to be exact right ?

So If the preamp and power amp aren't captured separately (and almost nobody does that) how will you recreate the effect loop that goes between them ?

Also IR are linear transforms same as reverbs or delays, so those wet effects like reverbs or delays will sound almost if not absolutely the same placed before or after IRs on digital units without significant or even without any difference between the tones at all. And you wouldn't even put non non linear effects in FX Loop.

Think its not a big deal at all.

Yes this will overwrite the previous uploaded database. This was done because the time required for TONEX to load such a large database was becoming unwieldy. To show how bad it was becoming; the last large database file took TONEX took just over 4 minutes to load!

This is because IK Multimedia does a really poor job of software optimization. Below is a comparison with Overloud TH-U using its Rig Player. Notice that TONEX doesn't have any 3rd Party IR accessible, and has less presets and models to load.

    TH-U
    Presets: 4998
    Models: 14,285
    3rd Party IRs: 468,613
    CPU: 1.7%
    Initial Load Time: 2 seconds

    TONEX
    Presets: 206
    Models: 8,380
    3rd Party IRs: 0
    CPU: 4.1%
    Initial Load Time: 244 seconds

Interesting EdgerFriendly, just ToneX sounds more "organic", "analogic" to me.
    Both are great anyway !

I will be buying some packs, but it will be after I've bought a new bedroom carpet. So I'm guessing that it will be late April before I have any spare cash.

There is no way to delete the IK models in Tonex yet, right? That option would really speed up my workflow.

You can in SQLite browser. Just leave the one you use in your default setting. By default its that Agnus one. It worked for me.

    @Lizard

    Totally right about linear IR.

Putting a reverb before or after IR change nothing (apart some dynamic reverbs).
    Same with delay.

I understand your point of view

On my side, i find it strange IK released ToneX pedal instead of a whole multi effect.
But they already released separate pedals for delay, reverb ... (X pedals) so logically they done the same with amp.

If they go the Line6 route, IK will put out a bigger, flagship board with all the bells and whistles and then a smaller board (normal pedal size) that just loads ToneX captures.

The accountants wanted to hit a particular price point. Overall it's pretty good for what it is and what it costs. Esp. with the TonexMAX included.

I find it kind of confusing, too. Lmao. It almost seems counterintuitive- but really it is because I am lazy and I want someone to order it for us. Haha.

But I believe the answer to your question is, "yes."
