Apart than guarding their copyrights with lawsuits the big companies who made the original versions may also be learning from Behringer. They may start using cheaper components and production methods themselves in order to maximise their profits. Behringer would in effect be dragging the whole industry down to their level if this happens.

In the beginning there was the original with 61 keys and plenty of rotary knobs, then only 49 keys were installed because of the competition, then the executive floor said; Minimizing costs and undercutting the competition then led to fewer buttons and knobs to more menu-driven software, via display or editor.

Yamaha released a series of small portable synthesizers that had no memory, you can't save presets there, you have to be online, log in and then play the presets, but they were cheap.

Bravo once again minimized costs and defeated the competition. Now Behringer is attacking the Korg company and some of the new ones have no keyboard at all. Oh yeah, MiniNova has MiniKeys, saved money again...!

Can you undercut Behringer, no! Cheap - cheap - cheaper - even cheaper and still something saved and rationalized away.

I wouldn't mind a nice sample pack of a dozen different lawn-mowers.

They are already maximizing their profits and gouging their customers, their materials are not much better, only their QC is on a higher level.

This is a niche market, so profit margins are definitely going to be higher

Being an absolute bass whore, I've wanted the Moog Taurus for the longest time, but always felt the Moog Minitaur was just a tad too pricey for me, so I will be jumping on this as soon as its released probably!

Companies like Behringer either you love it or hate it make somewhat accessible products. People in third world countries like the one I live can only dream of even seeing one of these legendary synths. I wouldn't even be able to own a synth if it wasn't for budget options made by Arturia, Behringer and Novation (and the second hand market, god bless it). This type of elitism ("oh, they're bringing the whole industry down!") always gets me in the nerves. No, rich people won't stop buying fancy gear, rich people like expensive things with high value embed... so relax. Stop bitching about it for a second and perhaps think about the other side: "oh, now a boy in Bolivia can buy a synth if he saves enough money", "now this dude in Vietnam can perhaps gets his hand on the synth he always dreamed of".

I'm not saying Behringer does what it does outta charity and philanthropy... I'm saying that they do give us the chance to think outside of our tiny little euro/american box a little bit. Let poor people have some god damn fun for once for fucks sake.

you are right man, is what i still don’t understand the criticism of this choice, is up to you to buy it or just ignore, the law is ok, they can reply it and I dont care, if i want the original and i can spend money ill do it..because i can..good, in the other way some other ppl tha can’t afford the original one can near understand what is it. But we miss a category buyers, think also to who for the first time approaching to the synthesis…
They are called musical instruments…lets them make music, all the rest is only spreading rumors around and bla bla bla.
