I wonder how this is possible because most of the time he doesn't know what he's doing.

Look into dedicated mastering EQs before you go all FFT on that master bus. Check out Manley Massive Passive, Maselec MEA-2, SPL PQ, Pultec, etc.

Fix resonances in the mix, not in the master (if possible).

Could also get TB BusCompressor v3 and call it a day..
    https://www.kvraudio.com/product/tb-buscompressor-v3-by-toneboosters

It's got all you need in a Digital master/bus Comp,
Auto/Adapt Release, M/S mode, Transient detector, ad even a special LF control..

Yeah, Sage Audio gives a lot of good tips.
And I almost forgot about this channel:
    https://youtube.com/@SaraCarterSimplyMixing

She has a lot of good tutorial videos, and as a little bonus, she has a very pleasant voice.
Which makes watching her videos even more fun.

On the master bus I use SIR Audio Tools StandardEQ. I cut off the very high and very low frequencies and (sometimes) make very subtle (2-3 db max) changes with low-Q bell curves in the middle. If I need to do more than this, I know my mix is wrong.

The other FX plugin on my master bus is LoudMax, which I use as a limiter with no more than 2-3 dB of occasional gain reduction, just snubbing the odd peak where everything happens to arrive together.

The whole v3 bundle is legacy and free:

The Windows and macOS versions of the TrackEssentials and BusTools (v3) plug-ins are enjoying their well-deserved retirement after being in service for over a decade and are now made available as freeware. Use the links below to install these legacy plugins. Please note that these plugins come as VST (and AU) formats only. The freeware offer does not apply to Android in-app versions. Please read the terms and conditions carefully prior to downloading or using these free plugins. Free plugins come without support or warranty.

I mean ProQ is a phenomenal and clean parametric EQ but to be honest I'd rather stick to something more fixed that doesn't run me into as many frequency clashes than a parametric eq which got me into a lot of trouble early on.

I'd rather use a graphical eq because it's more fixed and safe than dragging frequency points, bands and bells wherever you feel like willy nilly when you don't really know what you're doing or what the different band slopes, scoops, boosts, tilts, passes, filter types and other eq info someone should learn before moving onto parametric eq's. But that's just my own opinion, I don't actually know squat.

@Torouka some links to help you gain some basic eq information.

sounds like you should just go grab a free copy of Plugin Alliance's Masterdesk - that should do it.
