Yes I like 7 had 6 before used it a few times. It seems really good and has quite a few sounds.
I never disliked Hailion at all.

I just saw a better video Jef Gibbons actually I find his feature demo better.
He showed how you can import DX 7 banks into Halon 7. Really a great feature.
Also compared ti to a real DX 7.

What are your thoughts on Halion 7?

Cubase 7 was more than 10 years ago, so he must have been doing it for a while and you must be watching some old videos

 

As I wrote above, I would like to have a real alternative to Kontakt after all these years.
I feel that Halion is powerful enough to be that alternative, if only some of the bigger developers (Spitfire, Orchestral Tools, VSL and so on) were willing to give it a try.

Twenty years is starting to feel like a long period of time for a monopoly and it is weird to me that Kontakt hasn't really been challenged during all these years.

 

Oh sorry I meant Cubase 12, That was my mess up. I think he is pretty new I saw other people before.

 

Sorry I missed your post before. I agree Kontakt is nice and it would be great to have an alternate to it. Kontakt 7 is crashing a lot for me.
I have to open it in Reaper 3 or 4 times before it will load. Halion opens and loads fine. If I was to say is Halion equal to Kontakt it's not to me Kontakt to me seems more real on instruments. The Piano sound so great in Kontakt. I know they are different in a way and I am not trying to say it would not be nice to have an alternate because I agree 100 % it would be nice to have an alternate.
Some of the sounds in HALion are fantastic. I still have not gone through all of them since there are many.

The change from Kontakt 6 to 7 was barely noticeable. Wow, a new folder window which doesn't even display your instruments. Functionally, everything is the same, and the fonts are still too damn small.

Halion 6 to 7, OTOH, was a significant change, especially with the depth of the new synth FM Lab and enhancements to their synth engines. Maybe Steinberg knows that challenging Kontakt's supremacy is a waste of time, so focus on surpassing their weakness which is a lack of samples-less instruments.

 

Certainly a welcome upgrade and a lot better to navigate. A reasonable upgrade price too. Haven't got too involved yet, but seems less cumbersome than the predecessor and this FM synth looks pretty epic. Certainly snappier than version 6 and loads my libraries a more efficiently. Works with the new licensing system too. Need to check Dom's tutorials, as have spent the past day upgrading and reorganising my content. I like his enthusiasm. Find it quite encouraging. I wonder if he has off days.

I agree that I wasn't overly enamoured by Kontakt 7. Still using 6, which I prefer in fact.

 

I just noticed a strange thing with halon 7 and reaper.. If I click on the tcp and add an instrument track it loads with audio as my main input not my midi device. In Halion 6 it load with the midi device as my input device and also adds multiple outputs. Can you check you setup and see if it's just me?

 

FM zone is nice but certainly not new. Steinberg is always a bit behind on introducing new things but does the job very good i.m.h.o.
Halion 7 however doesn't work in VST hosts like Blue Cat's patchwork and Unify. I think there is something wrong with processing the graphics??
