Never really understood why people use of a remote desktop viewer to begin with, but always assumed there were facilities built into each OS for this.

Not trying to be a D_Bag, just expanding my personal horizons here, but what is the value in third party software like TeamViewer. What does it provide that you can not do with SSH or the built-in remote viewing that can be run in *nix and Windows.

I do agree for most cases but not always.
As long as you get new content very regulary, its a good alternative to regular purchase (e.g. newspapers ...)
For Audio content its most of the time not a good value unless the content is renewed constantly AND you are a heavy user.
In some cases its just cheaper than buying plugins if you use them for only one project.

    As always, it depends.

I now use Utraviewer after being banned from Teamviewer for using it too for commercial purpose...helping my mother using her computer at a thousan miles distance...
Teamviewer people are one of the worst. If you're on PC. Use Ultraviewer. Free. Really free.

I've been using AnyDesk for like 8 years now.
If you grab a copy of 7.0.14 or older and disable auto update, then it'll remain nag-free - probably forever.

Free, super tiny (like 3mb), super fast (works well even on 1.5mbps connections).
Can also just punch in the remote IP if they ever turn off their servers.

At the time it was way faster with way less latency than any of the alternatives (RDP, VNC, TeamViewer).

I'd sooner hack my left foot off before renting software.

I agree for anydesk. It works on your phone too, and needs no logging in or any other bullshit. I downloaded an exe file thinking it was a setup for the software, turns out it was the whole thing and i still launch it from my downloads folder lol.

Some parts are not true anymore if your cellphone contract expires you can quit every months. The termination button obligation is very interesting for the purpose of TV. (If they really don't have one, that's against the law since 07/01/2022). But im totally with you here in Germany the Customer is the golden Cow. We live in an Service Desert if you compare it to other countries.

    Automatic contract renewal
Up until now, it was permissible to stipulate that contracts that exceeded the maximum minimum term of two years were tacitly extended by a further year if the customer did not terminate the contract in good time. Since March 1, 2022, such a regulation has no longer been permitted for private individuals/consumers.
According to § 309 No. 9 BGB, a term of up to two years can still be agreed in the future. However, the agreement of fixed terms is linked to additional conditions:
Consumer contracts must be able to be terminated on a monthly basis after the minimum term has expired.
An automatic contract extension is only permitted if it is for an indefinite period and can be canceled on a monthly basis. The maximum permissible period of notice (both for terminating the original contract and for extending it) has been reduced from three months to one month.
The change has practical effects primarily on long-term contracts, such as telephone and internet, electricity and gas supply contracts or, for example, gym contracts.

In summary, the new regulation means that:
    the customer can terminate the contract with a maximum of one month's notice;
an automatic extension is only possible for an indefinite period and
the customer must be given the opportunity to terminate the contract at any time with a maximum of one month's notice after the end of the minimum contract period (§ 309 No. 9 b), c) BGB).

In addition, a cancellation button was introduced on July 1, 2022 to simplify the cancellation process.
An obligation to confirm receipt of the cancellation supplements the button. This way you know for sure that your cancellation has been received.
Energy supply contracts discussed over the phone must also be confirmed in writing (e.g. by letter, email or SMS). This makes it much more difficult to foist a contract on you over the phone.
