Marketing has become smarter... There is no 'one-size-fits-all' in anything, especially a technique that cannot possibly cover every possible combination of instruments on the planet, every possible acoustics room scenario, every possible harmonic and frequency, every style and genre that will differ from room to space, to choices.....
There are certainly ground rules for pre-recording levelling that are logical but past that...

P.S. - Anyone here ever wonder why Timpani samples sound different depending which ones you use? This is because they are a tuned instrument and the ringing frequencies reinforce the pitch of the notes. They are regularly culled in transients in some mixes because the engineer sees it like a drum only that is interfering. They were designed to reinforce pedal points, root notes and double lower and higher melodies depending on the score/composition. Go and see a live Orchestra and then listen to a badly rated recording of some other Orchestra doing the same piece. What I am suggesting becomes immediately evident.
