all those points in the video are totally correct, nice to see Miami covered the topic on legacy/nonsense workflows

I was like "okaaaaay, debatable, but okay", but then I got to the bit about headphones and stopped watching there. He's a living embodiment of the Dunning–Kruger effect.

Well, I am not a boomer...

Yeah, listen to him, you boomers. Do not high-cut things below 20hz It is the part where the feeling of your music comes from!!!
At least if you are an elephant. Every Mastering Ingenieur will cut your "feeling frequencies" under 20hz faster than you can say, boomer.

    jokes aside...
I never heard of "do not EQ 3db + " :dunno:. If he talks about mastering, if your mix needs 9-12 dB + from 5kHz-20kHz to sound good in the mastering stage then your mix sucks.
Headphone Mixing is tough because I never get stereo effects, reverbs and imaging sound the way I want. I always have to make corrections on/for speakers afterward.

    I don't mind being called a boomer.
I do dislike every click-bait no matter what they use in the title. Instant dislike although I agree with some of the things he says. Clickbait is a big problem.
And I dislike every "I'm smarter than all of them" bragging no matter who are "them".

Edited: holy shit, I just finished watching it and it's way worse than I imagined. Shallow and totally ambiguous basic data about the topic. Most "proof" examples we don't know where they even come from, down-talking-brat attitude. Jesus what a mess...

Fun fact 1: Boomers are people born in the 50s… and if they happen to be audio engineers, they have probably mixed more records than this 12 year old-wanna-be-big-daddy-kane-lookalike-flat-top-sportin',mf-youtube-"content"-"creator" has heard in his life thus far
Fun fact 2: Don't mistake a commercial for sub-optimal plugins by Joey Sturges Tones as "unbiased", factual mixing advise…

I agree, never add/subtract more than 3dB on an eq. Unless you need to, then do.
Anyway, I guess that's why eqs limit cut/boost settings to 3dB, so you can't make that mista--- oh wait, no, they don't do that.

I mostly agree with what he said, even though most of his comments are the kinds of things people would say when they have no idea how to make a mix translate.

And i don't think they are outdated depends more on Genre and what you want to archive. Frequencies will always stay the same for Boomers, Millennials or Gen-Z.

Can be compared to Songs sung without and with Autotune i prefer without but the Mainstream goes with Autotune. (I grew up on Rnb & New Jack Swing where People could actually really sing)

Remember back in the day when rappers actually had rhythm and could rhyme and follow a beat properly too?

I gotta say, anytime I hear "outdated mixing techniques"... not many mix techniques date. I suppose some do. In the 60s you mixed the bass low because otherwise the needle might physically jump the groove on a record and eventually Motown and The Beatles said "screw that" and that became an outdated mix technique. Mono became an outdated mix technique, at least as a discrete thing. But 95% of all established mixing techniques are as fundamental as say, underlying cooking techniques. They are what they are, they won't change and that's that. The style of music doesn't matter really, sound is sound.
