Any recommendations for a free or cheap multi-track audio recording app for Windows?
It's for my sister, and she doesn't need any editing tools -- only to record audio vocal tracks.
I'm on Mac and use Logic, so I'm not familiar with much on Windows.

I got her to try Audacity and she got weird phasing. I'm not sure if she was just doing something technically wrong with her settings or what (I wasn't there).

Cakewalk was one of the first modern DAWs.
Tracktion is similar to Ableton & NNitwig Studio layout-wise.

 

Phase can appear when listening on the speakers while recording the microphone.

 

record audio vocal tracks = Audacity
Phasing is probably duplicate sources (mic bleed, double record ...)

This problem will not be solved by a new soft

 

Audacity hands down, especially nowadays.
If possible, I suggest you check out the issue or listen to what was recorded at least.
Sometimes what is described as one issue is called differently than what was described, altering the methods for identifying the problem.
Though if it is literal phasing then it could be a short feedback loop, reflections in the room, etc...

I agree with those who say Audacity is not the problem.
Audacity is great for a beginner who does not need all the extras.
There is simply less to figure out... and less to figure out if there is a problem.
