BTW: Most of the time I feel younger today than I felt when I was twenty.
Not in terms of physical condition, of course, but in terms of my attitude. In my 20s and younger, I was a snob and anything but tolerant.

To get a feeling how it is getting old is a saying we have here:
"If you are over 60 years old, wake up in the morning and nothing hurts you?
...then you are dead!"

 

Let me tell you something. I am a parent and I don't wanna be one.

I have trained some young people (20-25) on the job in the last few years.
I had the feeling that they do like to learn something from older people as long as they don't constantly present their age as something better.

It´s not simple and then again very simple........

Here are the simple ones - and yet:

1: When you have young colleges on your job you could be the parent of.
2: When you decide that there are discussions you don't want to participate in because you've already taken that discussion too many times.
3: When you decide that there are more important things in life than being hip and prefer to listen to a good vinyl with Miles Davis and John Coltrane.... could also be Prince, Joe Jackson, Elvis costello etc etc.....
4: When you regularly check your hearing because you are worried about whether you have a hearing loss.
5: When you are worried about whether you exercise enough and whether the food you consume is actually the right one or whether there are better alternatives.
6: etc
7: etc
8: etc................................

I could retire with a pension now but I think I will wait a few years because I actually love my job.

When I have to explain to a younger person, "That was before cell phones." (Such as when I have to explain what an "answering machine" was.)
When I remark to myself, "I'd first had that album on 8-track cartridge."
When a very-young, very-attractive woman is obviously attracted to me, but I'm not interested, because she has nothing interesting to say.
When a very-young, very-attractive woman is obviously disgusted by my being so much older than she, but I don't care, because she has nothing interesting to say.
When "my" blood pressure is a cause for concern.
When the manner of speaking and the overall sound on Tik-Tok videos annoy the heck outa me.
When I hear young musicians having conversations that I'd had when I was their age, and I realize that I hadn't been as original or unique as I'd thought I was.
When I listen to the first recordings I'd made, and cringe, but I wish that making music were new to me again.

 

Tinnitus + bad memory (can't recall basic names / terms)

 

Women in their 20s look (and usually act) like babies and women in their 50s look pretty hot...

 

Oh, that reminds me. About 4 years ago I had to send a postal-ANALOG-mail-letter for some paperwork. I happened to be with the daughter (around 19) of some neighbor-buddy while he was busy so I went with her to the nearest public mailbox.

She was very anxious at the very idea of sending an analog-postal-mail

Her : "Is the letter important?"
Me: "kinda, paperwork"
Her: "are you sure putting it in this box is safe?!"
Me: "Yep... don't worry"
Her: "but how does it end at its destiny?"
Me: "ahem... you know the garbage trucks? Believe it or not there's a postal mail truck which also passes everyday"
Her: "but if something goes wr...?"
Me: "that's why I wrote my "sender" data on one side. Worst case they return it. You know, like ad letters"
(she stops a second 'cause suddenly realizes analog letters still are a thing for the ads everybody receives. Epiphany-like face)
Her: "But wh..."
Me: "Don't worry. Please. Is your dad done?"

My first music was composed on real piano.
My first computer-composed music was made on Cakewalk 3.0
My first soft-synth was MS-DOS Newstyle AXS - I remember since today its wonderful jawdropping sound. Anyone knows it?
I took desktop PC and CRT monitor on my first gig.
I remember the time when I was getting warez from Kazaa.
I remember Radium, Oxygen, H2O, demo scene tunes and *.MOD music format. I recommend googling MOD archive - some masterpieces are waiting!
My first soundcard was Gravis Ultrasound.
My first MIDI interface was based on printer serial port.

I don't feel old. Quite contrary - I am having a great time and I am finishing my new album :D The only thing that changed is that I realized that life is much shorter than I thought. Last 20 years passed in a blink of an eye. Enjoy your ride!
