    Hi!
basically i want to be able to run plugins on my voice before reaching discord or whatever, i can use cables to route to a daw but ideally i want a lightweight and minimal solution

i used a software called lighthost which crashed a lot and i used it in tandem with voicemeeter, my setup would constantly break after updates and whatnot

how best can i achieve this? i dont want a voicemod type application as i'd like to run my own plugins

    thanks!

Rogue Amoeba SoundSource or Loopback if on Mac.

Of course you know that you have to route audio through a daw/VST host.
An ASIO router is perfect, but probably you need something more powerful than Voicemeeter, though I used this not much and maybe there are options that I didn't dig.

Odeus Asio Link Pro probably would do.
With this one the route is (consider that is multiclient and any ASIO sw has its own routing window):
ASIO DRIVER IN [1](1,2)--->ASIO HOST IN MIX [1](1,2)
ASIO DRIVER OUT MIX [1](1,2)--->ASIOVADPRO MIX OUT [2 or up to 16](1,2).

In Discord, Skype or whatever you would choose as input ASIOVADPRO MIX OUT [2].
I used something similar for skype but no FX.

appreciate the input @orbitbooster & @Moogerfooger but i installed voicemeeter and used lighthost on the asio insert and it works (for the time being anyway)

I use Jack for this on windows. If everything is asio, just loop your mic, to your voip app via a vocoder (or pitch-shifter)

Considering your preference for a lightweight and minimal solution, you might want to check out Odeus Asio Link Pro, as suggested in the Best Answer. It seems like it could provide the routing capabilities you need without being too resource-intensive.
As for running your own plugins, that's a cool idea! You can experiment with various effects to create a unique voice. If you ever need inspiration or guidance on getting VOIP-related tools, you can visit the article I found about getting a VOIP number. While it focuses on getting a VOIP number, it might have additional tips and tools that could be useful for your setup.

I recently tested another sw and found that it really works fine without the need of vst host.
It's Audio Repeater Pro, it works even within Asio Link Pro matrix (or Voicemeeter I guess).

I needed to see if I could route ALL system audio (ASIO, or any other protocol) through a spectrometer and a correlation meter to check the quality of streamed audio, and wow, perfect.
But of course you could add active fxs like reverbs, distortions etc.

It can work with exclusive audio input too (e.g. mic), ALP or Vmeeter (I always guess).
It can add any vst and create and save multiple fx chains.
