...Perhaps do we need more AI?

AI seems to be our present Next Big Thing (tm). AI makes your sound shiner, softer, harder, faster, better.... (hem sorry, RIP Daft Punk... ).

Anyway, there's another Big Thing that doesn't seem to pass, some would say that it's a heavy tendency which have invaded everything and is made to last: We all wanna sound more Analog!

So I said to myself, in the vast, windy inside of my empty head: Why not reunite both? Analog + AI, THAT should be the best equation! :like:
Yeah ok, you would say: I'm not an engineer, nor a developer... But today, we have ChatGPT!!! :hillbilly:
So I asked ChatGPT to do the following things:

    1. Create an empty text file.

    2. Fill this text file with the word "ANALOG", until reached the magic size of... 54 Mo! Yeah, the AI told me that it's the RMS size of the most renowned plugins of the galaxy...(?)

    3. Duplicate the resulting file three times in the same folder. Name them with a fancy 'analog' name, followed by the extensions: .vst, .vst3, .component and .aax.

    4. Create standard Windows and Mac installers, which will have the delicate task to put the files into their respective folders.

...and voilà! I asked the bot to talk about "The New Analog Miracle" everywhere, and at the same time to create a nice looking commercial website full of overwhelming, technically blurry arguments and exciting photos and videos in the goal to sell copies of these installers around 129.99$ each. (Why 129.99$? Because the AI told me so, of course!).

When amateurs producers will see the (fake) video testimonies of AI-made virtual TOP/#1 ultra-fashion producers sharing their enthusiasm about the "incredible analog, AI-made processor", they will rush to buy what will be the "Number One, Multi-Awarded FX of All Times EVER!", as they will say at GearSpace!

And ya know the best of the best? These plugs will never, ever have any glitch, bug, incompatibilities, crashing, and will never consume any bit of RAM nor CPU power!!! Isn't it outstanding?

Do you feel inspired with lots of plugins? for me is a total mess. I don't know how the x compressor from the y indie company that eats 10% of CPU will help my inspiration and my work. And...

Have you ever figured out that most of the compulsive downloaders are, in fact, plugin testers that don't recieve nothing from that? Because i doubt i can use all the tools available time by time on my projects. If you want to do so, i feel sorry for the backwards compability of your sessions.

If you are having fun, i can't tell you nothing, go ahead and throw that crappy shadow hills clone on your drum bus :bleh: and don't forget to try the brand new avalon clone with DAT smooth analog waveshaper tone!

Keep looking for lightweight plugins which can replace your existing bloated plugins.

If a plugin DLL is bigger than 20-25 MB, it uses HISE very likely. HISE is like Electron for audio plugins and its currently plaguing the market. Inside every HISE plugin (I have seen) there is a JS interpreter embedded with the actual script encrypted. The script is decrypted at runtime and probably JIT'd but all that is quite heavy with a session having a shitload of plugins.

This is exactly the shit that makes you feel that your hardware is getting older, but its the software that's getting lamer, really.

Stay away from producer branded plugins and romplers. Those rarely get updated or bug fixed. Instead the producer spends money to get one more plugin made and get it advertised about almost everywhere. The truly good ones don't spend a lot on marketing.

    Stay away from Unison Audio.

If you like to look at wood, buy a tree or put it as your wallpaper. It bloats the plugin with unnecessarily large PNGs of nothing but fucking wood for all different resolutions.

Plugins which take a shitload of time to scan are just as bad with the CPU when you use them. I have always observed this.

Imagine walking into a huge studio like AIR, even in the 90s, and expecting to choose between 17 reverbs, or compressors. Most studios had THE reverb and THIS compressor or THAT one. It's good to have more flexibility tgan that but too much choice is crippling.

Well, it's almost like comparing apples and cashews. AIR Studio One has a custom Neve AIR 72 channel board to start with which was probably many hundreds of thousands of dollars with Rupert overseeing the installation and the costs still now continuing with salaries for pro techs to keep it running daily. There's also just in case the producer needs a little more, a 56 channels Neve 31106 & 16 channels Focusrite ISA110 which together ain't cheep either, and that's not including the outboard gear in this one studio which consists of...so who needs more than a coupla reverbs?

Yes, your thesis of people being attracted to a new plugin has been proven and I understand where you're coming from.

Please take the following as a friendly poke and not an attack.

In the past 2 years, I have discovered , by the medium of the sister site and other infamous audio slutz reknown website, some of the tool that gave me a push to do music that I now consider decent at best in comparison to random trash a couple years ago.

Those AI softwares really helped me get the trash out of the upper bin and I cannot be more grateful to anyone that is involved in this, from the developer to the crack team all the way up to me buying them most of time now as I am quite a bit more comfortable financially then I was when I was in my early 20's.

So as much as I totally understand your stand point, I do believe that I need that next best ''sonible smart:limit", that 'God particle', that new ''Studio One 6 with dynamic eq's'', that 'cloudbounce', that new ''Kush Clariphonic'', that new ''Serato Sample'' and so on and so fort.

There's a meme circulating for a few years now that goes like: "Teach your children to collect vinyl and they'll never have money for drugs'' which is extremely ironic given the number of great music that was composed being completely busted but the point is that I personally do prefer to be addicted at refreshing a website then hanging at the bar at the corner of the street or collecting sneackers!

Obviously, I wish I was only eating lettuce and doing yoga 5 times a day and hosting a bunny shelter where everyone jumps on rainbows but life being what it is, I'm extremely grateful for my F5 key and the sister website.

I personally still need them. All the ones I download, I need them, it gives me a small fake sense of confidence to make another trash beat and go to bed feeling like I'm Dr Dre.

Do we actually need the latest, greatest cutting edge software to produce great music?...I think about all of the albums that have been made over the past 50 years on technology that's no where near what I currently have in my desktop, I think we're more obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses than making music, I myself am guilty of this, thinking I have to have that one more plugin that's going to be the magic bullet to give my mixes that "professional sound" I've been chasing, there's more than enough plugins and instruments out now to make thousands of albums, just a thought......

I'm just installing something in Ableton as we speak:

    Scanning plug-ins VST3 ... 761

I might use twenty of them -- thirty at most.
